About Troutbeck Head Experience Freedom Glamping

Tucked into the fells just outside Troutbeck, this collection of ensuite glamping pods and cabins offers a proper escape into the Lake District's quieter corners. Each unit comes with its own shower and toilet, meaning no trudge to a shared block, and most are dog-friendly—ideal if you're bringing the whole family, four-legged members included. There's an accessible pod available too, thoughtfully designed for guests with mobility needs.

The site itself is simple and uncluttered, focusing on the surrounding landscape rather than on-site frills. WiFi is deliberately absent, encouraging you to disconnect and soak up the Cumbrian hills. It's a solid, no-nonsense base for walkers tackling the nearby fells or exploring Ullswater, though some visitors note the facilities, while perfectly functional, can feel a touch basic for the price.

Bloody aweful site , everyone seemed to have packs of dogs, they were everywhere. I saw them peeing on people's caravans and being allowed to poo on people's pitches. Then the midges and horse flies, I was bitten so many times. Re visited this site in April 2025, Easter break. Still packs of dogs running around not on leads. The site managers appeared to be arrogant, mean and aggressive. First impression because arrival day was the only time they spoke to us, and both were aggressive and rude.

What a fabulous site to get away from it all without sacrificing fantastic facilities. Great walks from the site, we went to Aira Force today and the views we encountered were fabulous. Fish and chip van twice a week, Friday and Monday.. Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Love it!
