About The Lounge Hotel and Bar

Penrith puts the Lake District and wider Cumbria within easy reach, and The Lounge Hotel and Bar makes a practical base for exploring it. Walking and cycling routes are close by, there's a golf course nearby for a round between sightseeing, and the surrounding pubs, restaurants and entertainment mean evenings don't need much planning.

The hotel itself has 11 rooms, each en-suite, kept spacious and clean with comfortable beds and the option of drinks brought to the room. Free WiFi and 24 hour reception cover the practical side, and meeting rooms are available for anyone combining business with the trip.

Food is a strength here, with a restaurant and bar on site serving a broad choice at breakfast and in the evening, and staff are consistently helpful and attentive. Free on-site parking adds to what is generally considered good value for money, making it a straightforward, well-run stop for a Lake District visit.

What a fabulous hotel! We booked to stay for 3 nights as a mini break for our 35th wedding anniversary and as a base for the weekend for an archery competition 4 minutes away at Frenchfields. We had a great stay - the only downside was that we had a room on a main road and no aircon but there was a fan in the room. The breakfast was amazing with loads of choice - cereals, yoghurts, fruit juices plus full cooked breakfasts cooked freshly to order. We had dinner in the hotel on Saturday night and again the food was excellent and the burgers we had were delicious. We will definitely be back next year! Caron & Steve Kolowiecki

I didn't stay here so can't comment on the rooms, however after staying at an Airbnb in Penrith, The Lounge we incredibly accommodating to hold our luggage for the day while we continued to explore the area and travel out to Aira Force. The coffees and cake were fabulous and the staff were super friendly and helpful. They stored out luggage securely all day and this made our day so much easier, thank you.

A great place to stay in the middle of Penrith with friendly staff, clean rooms, a lovely breakfast and a car park. The hotel has a very busy, classy restaurant/bar offering a great atmosphere and the air conditioning helps in a heatwave. The main road is quite noisy at times but hasn't put us off staying again.

Disappointing party package on what was intended to be a farewell meal for family. We have had party packages here previously for various events and found them to be excellent, not so this evening however. Our provisional booking was smaller than initially planned due to illness and this was noted on arrival at the venue. We would strongly advise anyone booking a party package to confirm the numbers in writing to avoid the embarrassment that we have received this evening where we had to pay for an extra 7 meals (!!!) as the establishment had "prepared food" for a given party size, yet 'phone messages from our organiser hadn't been relayed to bar staff/kitchen and we had nothing in writing to confirm the numbers, even though it was apparent long before service that our numbers were less. No-one confirmed our totals, set the tables accordingly or checked if everything was ok. Overall the service was very poor and the food less than hot. Now the naysayers may feel this is a gripe at the extra £140 we had to pay and yes that is certainly true however, at least half a dozen people in our party work in hospitality ....pubs, hotels, restaurants etc. etc - many at a high level; Level 3 Food Hygiene quals and all the rest of it and quite frankly with our day to day knowledge and industry experience the service was dreadful and the food could certainly have been hotter. We had to go and ask for cutlery for two tables as none was provided .....funny really when the management said they were catering for 35 yet only 28 cutlery settings were provided!!! We then had to rotate around the room to see which tables had the food items we wanted as each table had different food stuffs. The food was plonked down and that was the end of it, none of the customary hospitality service of "how is your food?" etc. If you've read any of my previous reviews you will know I rarely, if ever give a poor review but may give "constructive feedback" occasionally if I feel a venue could improve. I make no apology for the negative tone of my review in this instance, it is an honest appraisal of our experience this evening and I seriously wish I had not travelled through to Penrith for such a substandard evening.....I could have attained far better standards hosting at home!! I would also challenge the establishment to justify their policies, behaviours and food service quality this evening because I am afraid you've probably lost out on 28 people coming back as repeat customers.
