About Meikleour Arms Hotel and Restaurant

Meikleour Arms Hotel and Restaurant occupies a solid, traditional building on the Old Military Road in Perth and Kinross, the kind of former coaching inn that anchors a small estate community. It houses just 13 rooms, giving it the scale and character of a proper country hotel rather than a chain property, with a restaurant and bar at its heart.

Rooms are kept comfortable and spotlessly clean, and the hotel welcomes dogs, making it an easy stop for those travelling with pets. Guests have access to free WiFi, air conditioning, lift access, luggage storage and free on-site parking, along with breakfast and concierge services for anything else that's needed. The restaurant draws on ingredients from the estate itself, with dishes such as venison, pheasant ballotine and mussels regularly singled out, all served at reasonable prices by staff described as attentive and friendly.

The wider area offers Elcho Castle for those interested in local history, with Dunkeld and Birnam also within reach for a day out. Nearby pubs, restaurants and other eateries add further options for guests who want to explore beyond the hotel's own kitchen.

Searching for somewhere to have a nice dinner close to Alyth and google maps had this gem. The drive was stunning, countryside lanes. There are two car parks one for the restaurant/bar and one for hotel reception. The building is beautiful with many different eating areas. We ate in the bar with our dog. I had the burger which was sourced from Aberdeen, my husband had the steak and mushroom pie. The food is brilliant. The history of the Meikleour estate is fascinating.

We had a really lovely evening meal at the Meiklour Arms restaurant. On arrival the staff were really friendly and welcome you in to the beautifully decorated restaurant. The service was very quick and all the food was really delicious. I had the tempura asparagus to start followed by the venison loin and the crème brulé to finish absolutely nothing to fault on all three courses... The bar man made a very nice, spicy bloody Mary too. Highly recommend a visit here to sample the food for yourself.

Fantastic, dog‑friendly place with exceptional service We had a wonderful evening at The Meikleour Arms celebrating my aunt’s 80th birthday. Everything was absolutely spot on from start to finish. We were given a private dining room, beautifully decorated and perfect for our group. The place is incredibly dog‑friendly — we even had water bowls provided for our two dogs, which was such a thoughtful touch. The food was delicious and enjoyed by everyone. The staff were outstanding: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Even when our taxi was delayed and we ended up being the last to leave, they were patient and kind and made us feel completely at ease. My aunt and uncle loved their room and have already vowed to return. A faultless experience — we can’t wait to come back.
