The Duke of Cornwall Hotel opened in 1863 and describes itself as Plymouth's first purpose-built luxury hotel, standing on Millbay Road within a few minutes' walk of Plymouth Hoe and the ferry terminal. Its French Gothic exterior, complete with turrets and a distinctive tower, has made it a recognisable landmark on this side of the city for over 150 years, and the building retains much of its Victorian character inside.
There are 72 bedrooms, individually designed and varying considerably in size and outlook, from more compact standard rooms up to larger superior and luxury rooms with period features. The hotel's restaurant holds an AA rosette and focuses on classic British cooking using West Country produce, and there is a lounge bar for drinks. Duke of Cornwall was recommended to me. So I booked 3 nights with them. I was not disappointed wow what a beautiful building built for the Victorians. This hotel is full of history and it’s like stepping back in time. The interior was magnificent clean and well looked after. Now with the building built in 1865 it comes with its own character. The majestic stair ways and Victorian windows and the lift to the floors. The main revolving main entrance doorway. Just beautiful. The hotel has been updated the rooms to good standard and new bathrooms fitted and were clean to high standard. Shout out to House keeping you do a brilliant job well done. The staff I cannot praise enough.They were brilliant they could not do enough for you. Well done. From reception to restaurant to the bar staff. What can I say about reception staff you were all amazing especially Skye you stood out I watched how you dealt with situations with customers you did it so professional and with smile. Just leaves me to say massive Thank you for amazing stay I will be back. Keep the excellent work going you all deserve so much praise.

Absolutely spot on, I loved it. During my time I've stayed at numerous 5 star hotels and would prefer this any day, it was pure charm. Great big rooms, clean and warm, what other hotels have a trouser press in the rooms. Breakfast was superb, if you want fried eggs just ask.

Last night 4 of us came to the New Year eve party. It was excellent, the food and disco was amazing and all made possible by the super efficient staff. Thank you so much for a great evening and start to 2026 I will definitely recommend and return next year.

An excellent stay at this hotel made so enjoyable by the hard work of Dave the general manager and his staff in accommodating the wishes and needs of our large coach party. There seemed to be no end to the things he could arrange for us and all done with a smile and a nothing to much attitude.
