About Yr Hen Fecws
Yr Hen Fecws is a small bed and breakfast in the centre of Porthmadog, attached to a well-regarded restaurant of the same building and just under two miles from Portmeirion. The building retains original stone walls and wooden beams across its seven rooms.
Each room is en suite with tea and coffee facilities and free Wi-Fi, and a full breakfast is included; guests can also book into the restaurant downstairs for dinner several evenings a week.
Its town-centre position and consistently strong guest reviews make it one of the more popular smaller stays in Porthmadog for visitors splitting their time between the town and Portmeirion.

Why 3 stars you may ask, well it’s the accommodation which drags it down, so let me mention the restaurant first, because that is more than deserving of 5 stars. Attentive and helpful staff, an interesting and varied menu and such wonderfully prepared food served in generous proportions - it would be hard to find food to better the offering of Yr Hen Fecws Restaurant, highly recommended. Now the less satisfactory part. We stayed one night, with friends staying in another room, both on the first floor. Initial impressions were good, the room, though small, appeared pleasant and the bathroom was well equipped. However, despite the weather having turned cooler and wet the room was warm and at night felt hot, even with the window and curtains open and fan on full; the radiator itself was not hot, but below the thermostat valve the pipe was hot, perhaps there were hot pipes heating the room under the floor? It was an unpleasant night. I also noticed that the tiled floor in the bathroom needs attention with missing grout and some tiles being loose, though not yet a trip hazard. Sadly our experience was not unique, our friends’ room was equally hot and uncomfortable (also despite an open window and fan). Their room also suffered from a poor shower which could not be adjusted, being either fully hot or cold. Sadly, I could not currently recommend this accommodation and it lets down what could otherwise have been a pleasant and memorable experience.

A nice small restaurant with a busy evening service. Food was well presented and service was friendly and efficient. However, I don’t think it was value for money with a two course meal costing over £50.

We didn't stay in the B&B, but the restaurant food was outstandingly good. Clearly one of the best restaurants in the area. The staff were friendly, attentive and provided excellent service. The food was absolutely brilliant and a fantastic selection of diverse flavours. Highly recommended.

Decided to eat at the resturant... again, not disappointed.. The food was amazing..I had the curry. Inside was snug, warm, welcoming and friendly. The food was so fresh.. The service was top quality.. I would definitely visit and stay here again.. and highly recommend it.
