About Malmaison Reading

A former spot beside Reading Station has become Malmaison Reading, a 75-room hotel on Station Road placed for anyone arriving by train or needing quick access to the town centre. The location makes it a practical base whether you're passing through for work or staying to explore.

Rooms are well-proportioned and finished with an eye for design, each with an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, free WiFi and the option of room service or drinks brought up directly. A restaurant and bar sit on site, with breakfast consistently one of the stronger parts of the stay, and kids' meals are available for families. Business travellers are catered for too, with meeting rooms, business services and valet parking, while concierge and laundry services cover the practical side of things.

Staff are generally professional and welcoming, though service standards can vary from visit to visit. Pets are welcome, and the surrounding area offers golf and fishing nearby, along with pubs, restaurants and entertainment within easy reach of the hotel.

We went to the restaurant here for my daughter’s 25 birthday and graduation. We were hoping for a nice celebration. And it was VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! The food was just ok. Nothing spectacular about it. The decor and vibes were 10/10 but the food was average 7/10. And we never got asked if we want more drinks. My husband ordered the steak on 50% off night and asked the waitress if what he ordered would qualify for the special pricing. She said yes. When it came time for the bill it took over 30 minutes to get it. Then someone came to “let me explain your bill” and his discount didn’t count!!! I told the person who brought the bill (not our waitress) we doubled checked with the waitress that what he ordered would count for the 50% off and she said yes. They acted like it was our mistake and said the machine wouldn’t let them enter the discount as what he ordered didn’t qualify. I know managers can over ride anything at anytime. It was not our mistake but the waitresses. I am sure we were treated differently since we are American. The man at the other table who sat down after us, also had a complaint about his food and got a “manager” who apologized and took it off his bill. He had a British accent so he was treated differently. Terrible!

My husband and I enjoyed a night away and dinner in the restaurant. Our room was lovely - clean, spacious and very well designed. The bed and pillows were comfy and the bathroom had a luxury feel. We must give a huge shout out to Sam who was our waitress for our evening meal. Sam took the time to explain the menu concept and help with choices. Her knowledge of the wine menu was excellent and her professionalism and friendly approach really added to our evening. Sam, you are an asset to Malmaison! Breakfast was also excellent - my request for eggs to be well done (personal preference) was met perfectly - I often find chef’s feel the need to override this! - and my husband enjoyed the kippers and the continental offerings. Overall, a fab stay - great location, lovely bar area and superb service from Sam. Many thanks!

Excellent hotel, centrally located in the centre of Reading and less than a few minutes walk from the railway station. We had a very large comfortable room and comfortable bed too. The breakfast was hot and delicious and there was plenty of cereal, juices, fruit, coffee and teas as well.

Extremely disappointing experience at Malmaison Reading. I checked into my room at around 5pm and immediately found that the air conditioning wasn’t working. I reported it straight away and was told maintenance would attend. After waiting for hours with no update, I had to keep chasing reception, only to be told at around 9pm that there was nothing they could do and there were no other rooms available. The lack of customer service was the most frustrating part. There was no proactive communication, no empathy, no apology and no real effort to find a solution. I was simply left waiting for four hours before being told to accept the situation. A hotel room without working air conditioning, particularly in warm weather, is not what you expect when paying for a stay at Malmaison. While I understand equipment can fail, how the situation was handled was completely unacceptable. Sadly, this experience fell well below the standard I expected, and I would not choose to stay here again unless the hotel’s approach to customer service improves significantly.
