What guests say
Was a hot day and we had booked for lunch with some friends. Parking was available. Went to bar for drinks. Cocktails shown on bar menu so asked if he could suggest one which used dark rum. He could not but was very pleasant but was not knowledgeable. Drinks ordered and served. No coasters which meant that condensation on glasses made table wet. No nibbles offered with drinks. I would have expected that menus would have been brought to us and we were not shown into the restaurant to our table so we left the bar and went into the restaurant. The menu choice was good, our waiter was very pleasant and the quality of food excellent.

A very disappointing Friday evening in what should be an excellent local establishment. Great food in a great location and a lovely terrace. Unfortunately appalling service. After initially being asked for our drinks order, I then had to go and find the waitress to order food, again to ask for the bill and yet again to pay the bill. I mentioned to what appeared to be the main waitress on the way out and she wasn't remotely bothered or apologetic.

Nice, old hotel. Yes, the Queen Victoria did stay here in the past. Room had flashing/defective bulbs on ceiling - if I had epilepsy I most likely would have had a fit. Floors and staircase is wonky/squeeks, but adds to charm. Breakfast has very simple offering but the hot meal can be ordered and is quite good, just takes some time to arrive. Somewhat for the older/pensioner crowd. Nice gardens. Love the cow milk pitcher

Not only is the hotel a beautiful hotel, but the staff are so polite, attentive and courteous that it begs the question why this only has 4 stars (when you factor in the exquisite French dining and equally, the gorgeous terrace and garden) And best of all is the charming Calverley Gardens and Park at the back of the hotel. The children’s park is traditional and in keeping with the charming countryside, all timber and not a piece of plastic in site! Wonderful stay all round and thanks to everyone including, but not limited to: Chloe, Seb, Jimmy, Monica, Lili and Marlon! The hotel is situated 5 minutes walk from the historic and charming high street, not to mention the quaint, Georgian colonnade which is The Pantiles.
