Fairchilds - Big Drift Barn

Photo: Angela Walker

Rutland's small-town charm and countryside walks are on your doorstep—the Rutland Cricket Centre is nearby, and from here you can reach Market Harborough and the villages dotting the county without much effort. Big Drift Barn itself is a converted barn on working farmland, with rolling views across the fields and a private hot tub set into the garden to use whenever you want. It sleeps 11 across four bedrooms, making it a genuine option for large groups rather than the usual six-person compromise.

The barn spreads over two floors. Downstairs, an open-plan living and dining space with a woodburner and bi-fold doors onto the garden suits gatherings—there's a sofa bed or two if you need the extra sleeping space. The kitchen has an electric oven, hob, dishwasher and laundry facilities. Three bedrooms are on the ground floor: one with a kingsize bed and ensuite, and two with pairs of single beds sharing a wet room. The fourth bedroom, upstairs, has twin singles, a television and Xbox, plus its own bathroom with a bath. Electricity, Wi-Fi, bed linen and an initial load of logs for the woodburner are included.

One dog can stay free. The property sits within a fenced garden where they can roam; the wider grounds include woodland (shared with other properties on-site). Parking is for up to four cars. No smoking inside.

Had a fantastic weekend for my nieces hen party. Accommodation lovely, well equipped property with nice extra touches . We had both properties so noise was not an issue. Would recommend for a party that can fill both properties so you can't disturb others.

Stayed here with 7 friends. We went for a relaxing weekend away. The accommodation was lovely, but unfortunately it is joined onto another barn (managed by the same company) and this was being rented out by 8 men who played loud music and shouted loudly until 5am. I text and called the owners at 12:30am as we weren't sure whether the noise would continue into the night, but both owners didn't respond to the calls and texts until the next morning (I was told that they always have their phones on silent at night). The soundproofing between the two buildings has obviously not been done very well, and because one of the downstairs bedrooms in Big Drift Barn is right next to the lounge of the adjoining property, there is no relief from loud neighbours if they are having a party (even though the guidance on renting says to keep the noise to a minimum after 11pm). I slept on a sofa both nights because of this. Okay to rent if you know the people in the neighbouring property but not if you don't. I was glad we didn't have small children as they would have been kept awake all night. Nice villages nearby such as Uppingham etc. so good for muddy walks/scenery and so on, but you definitely need a car. Didn't try the hot tub as weather was too cold.
