Fairchilds - Fairchild’s Barn

Photo: Angela Walker

Fairchild's Barn is a converted barn set on the edge of Rutland with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, sleeping up to 11 people. The property is yours alone—ground floor bedrooms come with en-suite wet rooms, while upstairs there are two further bedrooms sharing a family bathroom. The open-plan living space on the ground floor has a wood burner, sofas (including a sofa bed), and bi-fold doors opening onto a private garden with decking and seating. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, and wifi and electricity are included.

Outside, there's an enclosed lawned garden with furniture, a private hot tub, and parking for four cars. One dog can stay free. The property sits on grounds with woodland a short walk away (shared access), and you're on the edge of countryside near the Rutland Cricket Centre. The barn does not permit smoking. Arrival is after 16:00 and departure before 10:00.

Had a fantastic weekend for my nieces hen party. Accommodation lovely, well equipped property with nice extra touches . We had both properties so noise was not an issue. Would recommend for a party that can fill both properties so you can't disturb others.

Stayed here with 7 friends. We went for a relaxing weekend away. The accommodation was lovely, but unfortunately it is joined onto another barn (managed by the same company) and this was being rented out by 8 men who played loud music and shouted loudly until 5am. I text and called the owners at 12:30am as we weren't sure whether the noise would continue into the night, but both owners didn't respond to the calls and texts until the next morning (I was told that they always have their phones on silent at night). The soundproofing between the two buildings has obviously not been done very well, and because one of the downstairs bedrooms in Big Drift Barn is right next to the lounge of the adjoining property, there is no relief from loud neighbours if they are having a party (even though the guidance on renting says to keep the noise to a minimum after 11pm). I slept on a sofa both nights because of this. Okay to rent if you know the people in the neighbouring property but not if you don't. I was glad we didn't have small children as they would have been kept awake all night. Nice villages nearby such as Uppingham etc. so good for muddy walks/scenery and so on, but you definitely need a car. Didn't try the hot tub as weather was too cold.
