About Playden Cottage Bed and Breakfast

Playden Cottage sits in the small village of Playden, just north of Rye across the river, offering a quieter, more rural base than the guesthouses within the old town itself. Views from the property take in open farmland and glimpses of the marsh towards the coast.

Rooms are traditionally furnished with a cottage feel, and the property's setting gives guests off-street parking, a genuine advantage in a town where car parking is limited and often some distance from the old town's accommodation.

A generous breakfast, making use of local produce, is served overlooking the garden, and Rye's old town is within easy reach by a short drive or a walk along the river path, making Playden Cottage a practical choice for visitors travelling by car.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were simply lovely and friendly. We felt they really cared. Having a drink at the bar was enjoyable, the atmosphere was great, we're not so sociable people, but we felt so welcomed that we were laughing and chatting with locals that were very connected with staff which was lovely. The food was lovely and simple. The breakfast was the best though. Our room was clean and tidy and we had a very restful sleep. It's a beautiful oldie worldie place, surrounded with greenery. Great location and plenty to see and do. This was a very calming and peaceful place.

Unreliable event booking and short-notice cancellation I prefer writing positive reviews for the places we visit. However, this venue let us down. Our family reserved hotel rooms and the event space at Playden Oasts for an upcoming birthday celebration on 26 September 2026. Two months prior to the event, the venue emailed to inform us that they were cancelling our entire group booking due to "business reasons." When we sought clarification regarding the disruption caused to our family and guests, management stated that no formal contract existed because no deposit had been taken—despite previously confirming the reservation and subsequently cancelling all 12 hotel rooms our friends and family had secured. While no funds were taken, having a confirmed family event cancelled at short notice has caused significant stress and inconvenience. Based on our customer service experience, I advise extreme caution if you are relying on this venue for important occasions.
