About The Hotel Portmeirion
The Hotel Portmeirion opened in 1926 and sits on the shore of the Dwyryd estuary at the bottom of Portmeirion village, the Italianate folly built by Clough Williams-Ellis over half a century. Staying here gives you the village to yourself outside day-visitor hours, which is the main reason to book rather than simply visiting for the afternoon.
Rooms in the main hotel building are traditional in style, many with estuary views and some with balconies. Beyond the hotel itself the estate offers 32 serviced village rooms scattered through the coloured buildings around the piazza, the eleven contemporary rooms at Castell Deudraeth in the Victorian mansion up the drive, and thirteen self-catering cottages. All residents share the same facilities, so the choice comes down to style and budget rather than access.
Facilities include two restaurants, bars, and an outdoor heated swimming pool open from April to September and reserved for residents between 10am and 5pm. The village's own gardens, woodland walks and beach are open to guests at all hours, and there is a good network of paths through the Gwyllt woodland behind the village. Parking is on site.
Portmeirion works for couples and for families, and it is unusual enough that it tends to be the point of the trip rather than a base for something else. That said, Porthmadog is five minutes away, the Ffestiniog Railway runs from there up into the mountains, and Harlech Castle and its beach are twenty minutes south. Book direct for the best available rates, and note that the village can be busy with day visitors in the middle of the day during summer.

We stayed here for a long weekend and it was fabulous. The hotel is right on the estuary and has stunning views. Our double room had two windows, both with gorgeous views. The room was clean and spacious. We had dinner both nights in the hotel restaurant. One evening we had the tasting menu and the second night the standard dinner menu. There was a vegetarian tasting menu, which was incredibly creative. I did however enjoy the standard dinner menu meal more so. The gnocchi was lovely. The restaurant was extremely accommodating for allergies and any small changes. Their wine selection was fantastic. The staff as a whole were amazing. The reception staff, the bar staff, the cleaning staff, the porters and the restaurant staff. Everyone we encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. This is a stunning hotel in a stunning location. I would highly recommend!

My wife and I had an incredible stay at the Portmeirion Hotel and wished we had stayed longer. By the end of our first day we had found our way around most of The Village and on the second the Forest and still had plenty of time to relax. The views along the Estuary are fantastic and to wake up each morning to views of the Estuary and Snowdonia behind was fantastic. To see the sun going down each night equally fantastic. Every day the views were different. The only way to see Portmeirion is by staying in The Village. Four days was not enough for us. The staff added to our stay, very helpful throughout. The Afternoon tea was very good as was Sunday Lunch. We had an evening meal at the Castle, which was also excellent. We only tried the one cafe, the Caffi’r Ddraig for a drink and Caffi’r Angel for double scoop ice cream. Our Room was comfortable with plenty of room, a wardrobe (not a coat rack) bedside tables and large ensuite with a rain shower. The Village provided excellent cuisine, exercise with plenty of walking and relaxation. Did The Village meet our expectations, no it far exceeded our expectations and as an added bonus there was a dedicated The Prisoner Chanel on the television, which was all we watched. A Danger Man channel would be nice. Shame the camera obscurer was not open and the Dovecote was in a state of disrepair. We will return.

We stayed here for one night during our road trip around Wales, and it was the perfect choice. The town is especially lovely in the evening after the day visitors have gone, making it a great time for a peaceful walk. The breakfast time booking system was a little surprising, but the staff kindly offered room service at a time that suited us. We would recommend this hotel for a stay of one or two nights while exploring the area.

Six of us experienced the tasting menu at the hotel restaurant for my husband’s 60th birthday last night. We were blown away! The food and service are of a Michelin star quality. Each course was exquisite - really beautiful, interesting choices presented with flair. The waiting staff went above and beyond to ensure my family received the highest level of service.
