The Long Barn

Photo: Richard Rogers

The Long Barn is a restored 1970s conversion that retains the character of its agricultural past. Timber beams run through the interior, wooden floors warm the space, and large windows frame views across rolling Somerset hills and patchwork fields. The building sits on the edge of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where walking routes start from the doorstep.

One double bedroom occupies a mezzanine level tucked under the original rafters—a private sleeping space that feels removed from the open-plan living area below. The bathroom is ensuite. Downstairs, the kitchen and living room are combined in one light-filled space with doors opening to the back garden. You'll find an electric oven, air fryer, microwave and washing machine; essentials including heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are included, plus Wi-Fi. There is parking for two cars on site and a shared gym. The property does not permit smoking. Access to the garden involves six steps.

Pontispool Equine Sports Centre is nearby for those interested in horses. The water supply comes from a natural spring on the land. Two guests stay entirely to themselves here.

I organised a stay here for myself and my family for a special birthday. The Long Barn is gorgeous and set in idilic countryside. However the communication with the owner leading up to the stay was very disorganised. Following our departure the request for our security deposit back led to a lot of chasing and being ignored. This has left my overall experience of this stay with a very bitter taste, and because of this I do not recommend you stay here.

12 of us had a great week at The Long Barn, Luckily we had great weather so made good use of the garden ,gazebo, furniture and the very quiet surroundings, the pool is lovely and warm and a good size and the large hot tub is great. The property is big and so are most of the bedrooms which are all ensuite, so there's plenty of room for everyone and its very well equipt , As we had 3 kids we had to book it over the summer holiday, so at the time we booked it's expensive but when you consider what it has to offer I think it's a fair price and I know everyone had a great time and will have great memories. I can definitely recommend this property.

Just got back from a week here. OMG, brilliant, hottub was great for us adults, we all loved the pool, especially in this heat. Bedrooms are large but they have to be to accommodate the large beds. Games room a hit with the youngsters. Plenty of space throughout. I would love to own that kitchen. Really did not want to leave.

Perfect! Long weekend spent here for a hen weekend. The house and grounds are even more beautiful than described. Due to the weather being warm, the only room that was really used was the large kitchen, which had everything we needed. Our stay here was just perfect and no fault could be found with everything. A perfect location to get away from all the hassle of every day life. Will definitely be coming back.
