About Little Haven Hotel
Walk into a room at the Little Haven Hotel and you'll find clean, comfortable quarters, many of them looking straight out over the water, across the hotel's 62 rooms on River Drive in South Shields. It's a straightforward, well-kept setup rather than anything flashy, with free WiFi throughout and free on-site parking for anyone arriving by car.
Downstairs there's a restaurant serving breakfast and a la carte options, with the Sunday roast regularly singled out as a highlight, though standards on the food side have occasionally slipped according to some visitors. Staff are consistently described as friendly and accommodating, and the hotel also has a garden, luggage storage, and facilities for weddings. Golf, fishing, entertainment and a handful of pubs and restaurants are all nearby for those who want to venture out.
The main draw remains the seafront setting itself, with South Shields' beach and local attractions within easy reach. It suits guests after a comfortable base with a view, rather than a boutique experience.
What guests say
We got married here on Saturday and stayed for two nights. Our room was gorgeous with amazing views, we were blown away. Food was perfect in the restaurant. Our wedding was exactly what we wanted. Jess and the team were so helpful and attentive that it made everything go smoothly. They couldn’t have done enough for us. Thank you all so much! Lyndsey and Michael

I returned for a long weekend to this hotel where I have stayed happily many times over the years. Less happily on this occasion. We started in room 117. After unpacking we found that at least three room lights didn’t work. We reported this to the desk. The reception lady moved us to room 121. In this room the shower twice turned on spontaneously and soaked the floor etc. Then the shower would not turn off. We reported this to the apologetic young desk lady. She could not get the shower to stop flowing so she moved us to to room 118 In room 118 the electrics worked without any need to put the key card in the holder by the door (🤔) and the shower fan seemed not to switch off. Or did so randomly This concerned me on electrical safety grounds. We had problems or concerns in all three of the rooms we were put in. We never asked to be moved but were glad to do so when moves were offered. The staff were excellent but the electrical problems stress and constant upheaval of moving spoiled our weekend in SS We were given a bottle of Chilean wine by way of apology Nice gesture But it should not have been needed This was an expensive stay Very stressful Forever being moved from room to room because of defects in the rooms. In all the circumstances pretty poor. Apparently the hotel is set to get an ambitious refurbishing It needs it.

We used the Harbour Suite for a function (Celebration of Life). Very pleased with the communication and organisation of Jess (Events Manager) and the efficient and helpful attitude of other staff (i.e. Main Reception). The function went off exactly as we had hoped. Certainly would recommend.

Stop off here after a walk along the coast . We didn’t stay in the hotel we just got some food . The receptionist was lovely and friendly . I went in the restaurant the menu was very small not a massive variety only Sunday dinners , sandwiches and tomatoes soups . I would expect there to be a buffet with different selection you would see at most hotels . The toilets and highchairs aren’t the cleanest . Baby change was dirty even tho it stated it had been cleaned . The high chair was also dirty which should be cleaned . Also checked online it’s £170 a night for 3 people to stay there . For the location being near the seaside it’s fair price but for the food selection and how dirty things were wouldn’t be paying that price . They have the name of the hotel right Little haven hotel . Little yes but wouldn’t say it’s a haven . Wouldn’t stay here if someone paided me .
