Rufflets St Andrews

Just left one night with two rooms as a family at the Rufflets. A few things to note: the hotel has no AC and no elevator. The weather is incredibly temperate so we just had the windows open and it was wonderful, but on hotter days it could be an issue. Our rooms were two flights up so we had to carry up our luggage (the hotel receptionist did offer to help). The hotel grounds are beautiful and the facilities are dated but overall were very well kept and charming. The staff were truly kind and I would pin this as a true 4 star hotel. My only negative I could really cite was we had dinner at the restaurant, which had been noted as being particularly special. Service was incredibly slow (took over 1 hour to get our food) and the food was overpriced and not high quality for what it was. The two burgers were ordered in particular were pretty bad and neither of us finished them despite being hungry. Yet the hotel made up for it with a lovely breakfast, that I can recommend. This was a true Scottish experience outside of the city and with hardworking locals. Would def recommend.

This has been the best part of our trip to Scotland. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Their bar tender, Joseph, is likely the best bar tender in Scotland. He took the time to educate us on Scottish whiskeys, turning a standard flight tasting into a full experience. The hotel grounds is something out of a story book. The well kept gardens lead to a stream that is simply amazing.

We had a lovely stay in this nice boutique hotel. Lovely gardens and peaceful setting . Rooms are well appointed with hairdryer / tea / coffee facilities/ plenty storage & wardrobe space. Nice relaxing communal areas / bar. Food is good and nice selection. Breakfast had a good selection and also accommodated dairy free diet. Porridge was tasty . Lovely gardens and views with ample car parking space . Staff very friendly, helpful and very welcoming .

A beautiful country house on the outskirts of St Andrews, massively let down by frankly disappointing service. We paid around £4k for a week in Kinness Lodge (a self-catering lodge in the grounds), which was pleasant with a decent kitchen, and importantly clean. Small complaint was that the Barbeque which we'd rented for £75 was missing a bit causing it to cook food very slowly, after complaining they took £15 off for us, but really should be all together to begin with, especially considering we're paying for the use of it. Other members of our group spent around £340 per night for a hotel room. As part of our trip, we chose to have a buffet lunch. While this seemed well organised, it felt very routine and not very special to us. Furthermore for the £1.5k+ price tag for around 30 guests, the food really did not live up to expectations. Sandwiches seemed stale and lots of the other food seemed bland and very dry. Wine was also charged at nearly £40 per bottle, for a low-mid range wine. The staff during the meal seemed very disinterested and were rarely visible. A lovely get-together, let down by the Rufflets team, a shame considering the beautiful house and stunning grounds. Overall seems very expensive for what you're getting and they seem to be trying to make as much money from you as possible at every chance. For the price, I'd expect much better attention and care from your staff members as well. The restaurant is on the whole okay - would recommend the Haggis, but burger and steak seemed a bit dry.
