This is an absolute must-visit if you are traveling through Jedburgh or the Scottish Borders. The 16th-century tower house is beautifully preserved and tucked away in a lovely, peaceful garden. The museum does a fantastic job of telling the tragic and dramatic story of Mary Queen of Scots, especially her famous, life-threatening illness here in 1566. Climbing the narrow spiral staircases really makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. Seeing the replica of her death mask and her last letters was incredibly poignant. Best of all, admission is completely free (though donations are highly encouraged to support the museum). The staff are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the history. Highly recommended for history buffs, families, or anyone looking for an atmospheric stop on their road trip! Tip: Don't skip the beautiful gardens outside, which feature direct descendants of the original pear trees planted by medieval monks.

Whilst this is a free to enter place, there is an excellent audio guide available at £2.50 per person, which gives you either a "traditional" guide to the rooms or alternatively, a guide from Mary's perspective, performed by two actors. We did the latter, and it was very good, and well worth the money. Very friendly welcome from the lady on duty.

This free museum is very small only about 5 rooms but is full of atmosphere and lots of information on the life of Mary Queen of Scots life. Warning this museum has no toilet.
