Loch Lomond Farm Cottages - The Ploughmans

Photo: Rachel McMillan

Couples and families of up to four will find The Ploughmans a straightforward base for time in the countryside around Loch Lomond. The cottage is a converted farm building on a working farm, with its own enclosed garden and patio, private parking, and everything needed for a self-catering stay. Downstairs there is a living room with a 40-inch TV, a kitchen with electric cooking and a washing machine, and a separate toilet. Upstairs are two bedrooms—one with a double bed, one with two singles—and a bathroom with a shower over the bath. Wi-Fi and heating are included, along with bed linen and towels. Pets are welcome, and there is a travel cot and highchair available if needed.

The location works well for walking, fishing, cycling and exploring the national park; the Rob Roy Way and Cycle Track 7 both pass nearby. Trout and salmon fishing is available on the owner's stretch of the Endrick River, by arrangement. The farm itself can be toured by prior booking. This is not a flashy property—it's a practical cottage with a garden and the space to come and go as you please. Note that the garden has a step, and smoking is not permitted.

This was a perfect cottage for our trip to Scotland: close to Glasgow Airport but right in the heart of the countryside. We enjoyed being on a working farm and seeing the cows outside our windows and the swallows flying all day. The cottage is very comfortable and was very accessible for my mother who has mobility issues. And there is so much to do and see within just a short drive: Loch Lomond, Aberfeldy, a cruise on the Sir Walter Scott on Loch Katrine, hiking up Dumgoyne, Ben A'an and Ben Lomond, the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel, the Battle of Bannockburn museum and Stirling Castle, the Trossachs, and the wonderful distillery at Glengoyne to name but a few. Our host, Carol, welcomed us like we were family and it was so nice to arrive to find tea, coffee, milk etc. were already waiting for us: just what we needed after our transatlantic trip. We would happily return.
