Loch Lomond Farm Cottages - The Stables

Photo: Rachel McMillan

The Stables sits on a working farm where cattle and sheep graze the fields around you. Within a short drive lie the lochs, glens and walking trails of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park—the Rob Roy Way and Cycle Track 7 both pass close by, making this a practical base for exploring the area on foot or by bike. The Trossachs Discovery Centre is nearby, as are boat trips on Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine. Fishing is possible on a private stretch of the Endrick River (permits available through the owner), and the surrounding countryside offers golf, pony trekking and water sports.

This converted farm building has three bedrooms and three bathrooms: two doubles with ensuite showers on the ground and first floors, and a third bedroom with two single beds sharing a bathroom with a bath and separate shower. The ground floor holds the living room with a smart TV and French doors opening onto an enclosed garden, plus a kitchen-dining space with a full range of appliances. Essentials like electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wifi are included. There is parking for two cars on site and a welcome pack on arrival. The cottage is yours alone—no other guests sharing the property—and one well-behaved pet is welcome. The property is non-smoking.

This was a perfect cottage for our trip to Scotland: close to Glasgow Airport but right in the heart of the countryside. We enjoyed being on a working farm and seeing the cows outside our windows and the swallows flying all day. The cottage is very comfortable and was very accessible for my mother who has mobility issues. And there is so much to do and see within just a short drive: Loch Lomond, Aberfeldy, a cruise on the Sir Walter Scott on Loch Katrine, hiking up Dumgoyne, Ben A'an and Ben Lomond, the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel, the Battle of Bannockburn museum and Stirling Castle, the Trossachs, and the wonderful distillery at Glengoyne to name but a few. Our host, Carol, welcomed us like we were family and it was so nice to arrive to find tea, coffee, milk etc. were already waiting for us: just what we needed after our transatlantic trip. We would happily return.
