What guests say
A very welcome and hospitable location not far outside of Edinburgh, convenient location right off an intersection, but also very quiet and slightly away from where any traffic noise could occur. Staff at the inn were already in full swing of lunch by the time we arrived, but made for an easy check in with reception mid-way through the inn sitting area. We made a point to book for dinner, which was a great choice, seems to be a popular spot for locals and travelers alike; we didn't see any many folk from the states, which was nice as it was a more quiet and laid back kind of space to enjoy taking our time and not eat and leave. Dinner service was very nice, can't thank Calum enough for his recommendations on cider and appetizers. The crispy cauliflower wings were a nice start to the meal. We highly recommend the Pan-Fried Sea Bass, it was enough for me without feeling stuffed. The Minted Lamb Shank was also another main ordered for our table and was enjoyed very much; looked to fall off the bone and with a healthy helping of gravy to sop up with mashed potatoes and greens. The lemon tart and chocolate brownie were not too sweet dessert courses for us. I especially loved the clotted cream and berries paired with the tart, so good! We genuinely felt welcome on our vacation and look forward to stopping in again for a meal or two!

Most modern and upscale hotel I stayed at while in Scotland. The rooms even had AC! The restaurant that was located next to the rooms was also pretty good and the location is a short drive from the park and ride bus service up to Stirling Castle. Great value!

Pros: location is good. That’s about it. Cons: Traveling with a school group of 35 students. First night several room keys did not work. Took over an hour and multiple tries to get the key cards working. Management had to come and unlock doors. Upon arriving in rooms several students reported issues with cleanliness including bugs, blood and poop stained sheets and towels, and a Smirnoff bottle was found in one bed under the mattress. Moldy caulk in bathrooms. Also some rooms were not equipped with the beds needed and it took over 2 hours for these students to get clean bedding and a place to sleep. Not enough towels for the students in the rooms, many rooms only had one towel when it was a 3-4 person room. While management corrected the issues, it should not have taken 3 hours. Day two we were able to get a new hotel with the tour company. Because we are with a tour company, our bus driver can only drive for so many hours. Upon arriving back to the hotel this evening to grab our belongings and go, once again room keys did not work for several rooms. Management could have cared less and was quite rude to fix the situation. The hotel is run down, tons of gashes and dirt on the walls, stains all over the carpet. No hand soap or shampoo/conditioner provided. The pub is much nicer. The hotel seems to be severely neglected and needs serious deep cleaning, recaulked bathrooms, a vigilant housekeeping staff, and managers and or/owners that take pride in their hotel and their customers

I'll start by saying it wasn't a bad stay, the staff were all lovely, the hotel location suited our needs and the room was ok. We were in room 103 which was a family room, double bed and two singles, so for the 3 of us it was a good size. Beds were comfy enough although the double did slant down on one side but was fine. Room was clean but some of the walls were scuffed (which in a family room is understandable) but on the wall next to where I was sleeping I don't know what was on it..... The bathroom was not great. Size was fine and it was clean, but there was no fan in it and that is what probably caused all the mould on the ceiling and the very musty smell in it. For a family room and the potential of having 4 people using the shower it really needs to get upgraded. We were out of the room all day so wasn't really an issue but it clearly has been there for some time and not been addressed. We ate in the restaurant one night, a few of the dishes were not available and they were my daughters first choices, ended up with steak which was ok but not cooked as we wanted. The wine is very expensive, ordered a pint of lager and a wine which cost just under £18 which totally shocked us. Would I stay again, probably as wasn't bad, was reasonable value for money, location suited us and Luke I said wasn't a bad stay, some things just needed upgraded.
