What diners say

We visited The Regent on 20th June as part of a hen celebration for 28 people. From my initial enquiry through to the event itself, The Regent team were exceptional. It had been difficult to find a venue that could accommodate both our group size and timings, but they were responsive from the start. The location is ideal - close to public transport while being just far enough from the station to avoid the crowds. The team quickly suggested suitable spaces and understood exactly the type of event we were planning: a quiz themed around the bride. Their communication was prompt, knowledgeable and reassuring, leaving me confident we were in excellent hands. Before the event, we received pre-order forms, making organisation incredibly straightforward. I was able to arrange sharing starters and desserts while catering for every dietary requirement. The team also answered detailed questions about allergens and menu adaptations thoroughly and without ever making me feel like I was causing inconvenience. Both their expertise and attitude were hugely appreciated. On the day we were slightly delayed, but a member of staff called to check on us, and our reserved garden area was waiting when we arrived. Andrew, the manager, reviewed the order with me and ensured guests with allergies were identified before service began. Everything felt anticipated and carefully planned rather than reactive. We ordered the first round of drinks and paid for food upfront, after which guests could order at the bar themselves. Despite the size of our group, staff brought drinks to our tables, which was fantastic service. The bar team handled our large order efficiently and professionally. We hit one small snag. It was a beautiful day, football was on and the garden became noisier than expected for our quiz. The Regent team immediately suggested moving us indoors to a quieter area after our starters and drinks. They prepared and reserved the space quickly, demonstrating impressive flexibility and problem-solving without making any of us feel stressed. Despite hosting a lively quiz, we never felt like we were disturbing other customers. It genuinely felt like a welcoming community pub where private celebrations could comfortably take place alongside regular trade. The food deserves special mention. We had pre-ordered mains to arrive during the quiz, and service was excellent, with very little delay between the first and last meals. Great care was taken with every order, especially those with dietary requirements. The food was fantastic and exceptional value for money. I had worried some dishes might be too light for such a long day, but the portions were generous and everything was delicious. Many guests commented afterwards on both the quality and value. I had also asked whether brownies could be served as half portions on sharing platters, as not everyone would want dessert. Not only was this accommodated beautifully, but the team also served individual pots of ice cream alongside them - a thoughtful touch I hadn't expected. Throughout the day, every member of staff showed resourcefulness and genuine care in ensuring everything ran smoothly. I had been slightly nervous beforehand, as I'd never visited the venue and there were plenty of variables outside anyone's control. In the end, it exceeded every expectation. I cannot praise the staff, food and venue highly enough. This is an exceptionally well-run pub with a team that genuinely cares about delivering outstanding hospitality. Management and staff should be incredibly proud of what they have created. Thank you for playing such a memorable part in our day. It was a pleasure organising our event with The Regent team. Don't sleep on this fantastic place.

We were charged for two drinks we didn’t have (only discovered when checking the receipt the next day) and the food was mediocre (my pie had about 5 peas with it, more of a garnish than a side). The chairs by the windows are also super uncomfortable

What a lovely pub! Pleasantly surprised by the sheer size, vibe and great bar staff. Attended for an event, not usually venturing south of border, but would happily go back. Great job team. You made my evening :)

We had such a lovely time at The Regent yesterday afternoon! The place was buzzing with energy…. lively enough to feel exciting, but still cozy enough to settle in. It’s cleverly laid out so diners and sports fans can both enjoy themselves without competing for attention (or chips). Ordering from the QR code on the table felt wonderfully effortless… almost too effortless for anyone with low resistance to snacks. The food was delicious, the service was delightful, and then…. then…. the magic happened. You step outside in the beer back garden and there it is: the wardrobe at the entrance, as if you’re about to wander straight into Narnia. And as if that wasn’t enchanting enough, the outdoor garden has a sleigh and a full Mr. Tumnus grotto. We were ready to check for talking beavers next. Amazing. We’ll absolutely be back for another adventure!
