About Knap Guest House

Knap Guest House suits those after a low-key, comfortable stopover on the way through Argyll and Bute rather than a big resort experience. With just four rooms, it has the feel of a traditional Scottish townhouse rather than a hotel, and its position on Campbeltown Road in Tarbert makes it a sensible base for exploring the surrounding coast and countryside, including nearby Goatfell.

Rooms carry classic Scottish decor and are kept warm and comfortable, with harbour views adding to the appeal for guests who want to wake up looking out over the water. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout, and drinks can be brought to the room, which suits those who prefer to unwind privately after a day out.

There's a restaurant and bar on site along with breakfast service, so guests don't need to head out for every meal, and 24 hour reception means arrival times can be flexible. Free on-site parking makes it straightforward for those travelling by car to explore Tarbert and the wider area without worrying about where to leave the vehicle.

We stayed as a stop over on the way back from Islay before driving the next day, great location to start a trip into the northern Highlands. Parking on a nearby road was fine. We were let in remotely as we arrived after 8, we were still able to order our mini breakfast which was served within a minute of our requested time and it was all smoothly done. Bed was big and comfy, lovely little bathroom with shower and toilet and seats / table by the window overlooking the harbour. It was very quiet and we had a good night sleep. Breakfast was as requested, a sausage and a bacon bap, coffee and some toast Good value at £135 including a 10% discount for booking directly. I could happily spend a couple of nights here had our time allowed for it.

Excellent guest house. We were given a warm welcome & shown to our room. Lovely big room with a sleigh bed, couch, table & two arm chairs. Good view over the main street and harbour. A cosy room either period features, the bed was very comfortable. TV, wifi, kettle, fridge, tea, coffee, oatcakes, cheese & fresh milk provided in the room. Lovely en-suite bathroom. We picked up fish & chips from the Red Herring and ate in our room, comfortable to do, and enjoyed the complimentary (guest house) small bottles of wine with our meal. Breakfast was fresh & just what we needed before making the short drive to the ferry.

Stayed here for 1 night before catching the ferry to Islay. The service was friendly and the breakfast was very nice. The room would do with some new pillows as I found ours to be quite lumpy. The room could do with blackout curtains as the light woke me up rather early.
