About Cary Arms & Spa

Beach Road curls along the Devon coastline right into the water's edge at Torquay, and it's here, with the sea filling the view, that Cary Arms & Spa sits. The setting is the main draw: cliffside and shoreline surroundings that make the most of Torquay's coastal position, with watersports, cycling and walking routes all close by, along with golf and fishing for those who want to venture inland or along the coast a little.

Rooms are en-suite, with some family options and comfortable beach huts among the choices, plus drinks available in-room and free WiFi throughout. The on-site spa and sauna are well kept and popular with those wanting a slower pace, while the restaurant serves fresh seafood and a proper Sunday roast alongside a bar for something simpler. Staff are attentive and friendly, though service can slow down at busier times.

Free on-site parking with a valet service takes the hassle out of arrival, and pets are welcome. Beyond the hotel itself, the surrounding area offers pubs, restaurants and entertainment within easy reach, making it a straightforward base for exploring this stretch of the Devon coast.

A Fantastic Find Along the Coast! We stumbled upon this wonderful establishment while walking along the coastline from Oddicombe Beach. It was an extremely hot day, so we decided to pop in for a quick drink to cool down—and we are so glad we did! Atmosphere & Views While we initially hoped to sit outside, all the outdoor tables were taken. However, we sat in the conservatory instead and were not disappointed. It was lovely and cool, and it offered the exact same stunning, panoramic views of the bay and coastline. The Food We decided to order a light bite to keep us going and opted for the ale-battered fish and chips. They were absolutely spectacular. In fact, my husband declared them the best fish and chips he has ever tasted! The Fish: Incredibly light, flavorful, and wrapped in a super-crispy batter. The Chips: Perfectly cooked—soft and fluffy on the inside with a great crunch on the outside. The Extras: The accompanying homemade tartare sauce was equally amazing. Service & Summary The staff were all incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely return the next time we are in the area. Highly recommended!

Booked a beach hut stay for 2 nights for a special occasion and it was absolutely wonderful ! Beach huts are very comfortable for 2 people plus our dog. Our room had complimentary still and sparkling water, teas, coffee, biscuits, Kitkats and even a bottle of rosé. Complimentary breakfast was delicious and varied with cooked breakfasts available and a decent selection of yogurts, granolas etc. The staff were all lovely but the service can be a little forgetful which we didn’t mind. Lunches and dinner were lovely, good quality and priced for said quality. The location is just wonderful. So easy for quick dips in the bay and long hikes await for those that like walking. Overall highly highly recommend and we can’t wait to come back!

In November, we decided to spend a few days at The Cary Arms to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday—and what a fantastic decision it was. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. A complementary, chilled bottle of Prosecco awaited our arrival at our room, and when I say “room,” I really mean a wonderfully spacious, sumptuous, and immaculately clean beach hut. We also took our little dog with us, and he was just as well looked after as we were. The staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating, making it completely stress-free to travel with him and ensuring he felt right at home. The views from our hut were absolutely breathtaking, with the sound of waves crashing against the rocks making the whole experience truly unforgettable. The food was absolutely wonderful—from breakfast through to our evening meals, everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Nick, the duty manager, along with every member of staff, was exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It’s no surprise that we’ve already booked to return for a few more days later this month to celebrate my birthday this time. We really couldn’t recommend this wonderful getaway highly enough.

Where to start. At the Cary Arms Hotel luxury means thoughtful attentions. It's our second stay with six children. We rent one of the cottages. On arrival every pillow had a candy on top (kids remembered from last time). There was a crabbing kit and brand new buckets and spades for each child. In the fridge was a bottle of Jersey Cow milk. On the counter top was a sourdough loaf, local creamery butter and honey. The view from the bedrooms is so beautiful. The staff can't seem to do enough to ensure that we have a great stay. The cottage is genuinely decorated with the real unique art, furniture gorgeous blankets. The cottage is next to the restaurant and bar with amazing sea view. As parents we could enjoy a beer in the sun was watching our children fish just below. It is so safe and quiet at night. For a family wanting the dream Devon experience, it is just the perfect place. We will be back again and again !
