Fantastic! Such a warm welcome to begin with Ed, Kath and the team got us sorted and into our room hassle free. The room was great! Everything you want or need from a hotel, with an absolutely stunning view from the balcony (see pictures). We don’t feel the rooms being serviced daily is needed but, the guys were happy to work around us when we felt it was needed! Showers are a big thing for me and the shower was great, decent pressure and temperature with ample towels provided - towels were like bath sheets which is great for the larger man. Bed and pillows were so comfortable and had the stamp of approval from my 28week pregnant partner! The location was quiet, with just the sounds of the waves at night, to gently soothe you to sleep. Breakfast - this was absolutely phenomenal- great produce, much of which I understand is local cooked to perfection. It’s not a surprise that they were given awards for it All in all ✅ The location is fantastic ✅ The team were wonderful ✅ The facilities were great ✅ The beds are pregnant lady approved ✅ The breakfasts are phenomenal Honestly if you need a break, in this beautiful part of the country, you can’t go wrong with The Downs Babbacombe!

Our first time staying here and we were not dissapointed, upon arrival ed,one of the hosts helped my other half with our bags, and there were many.we were then offered a fresh hot beverage after our long journey, which I thought how lovely this gesture was, never have we been offered this before, wherever we have stayed.Ed chatted to us and we were shown to our room, which did not dissapoint, may I point out we were shown two rooms, but because of my mobility and too many bags we were shown a bigger room, this was so nice of ed to give us the option, thinking of my mobility around the room. The bed was huge in both rooms,a super king 🤴 white fresh comfy linen, tea coffee and even little decorative jar of hot chocolate was available. The view from the balcony is just beautiful, the sea,the cliffs, dog walkers,at night the whole street has colourful lights that go all the way down to the theatre.we slept better here than we do at home. Every morning we were asked if we wanted our room serviced, bed made, fresh towels beautifully placed, bins emptied, cups washed, just nothing was too much. The breakfast was just outstanding, available cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit, juice, gluten free available aswell, which you help yourself too, then Ed would ask if we required a fresh hot beverage, pot of tea and fresh coffee. Ed would then ask if we would like any hot food,we ordered a mushroom omlette which was absolutely amazing and all the produce is locally sourced and fresh.we ended up having mushroom omlette the following day,it was so good,we also had bacon, poached egg and beans on another day with wholemeal toast, the poached egg was perfect. After meeting Eds wife kate and the challenges that they have both experienced, in my opinion they have an amazing first class service to there guests.Thankyou for a wonderful stay and we will be back, but in the mean time keep doing what your doing, 5 ☆ 😊🫶

We stayed in this beautiful hotel over the summer half term and absolutely loved it! The view from our room and balcony was incredible and you could see right across to Sidmouth on a good day (and with some binoculars)! The surrounding area with the cliff train, beach, hotels, gardens, theatre and bars makes you feel like you're somewhere in Spain; such a wonderful holiday atmosphere! The hotel itself offers outstanding service and it's old-fashioned charm and attention to detail made you feel like you were going back in time (in a good way)! The bedrooms we're very comfortable and well thought out so you had everything you wanted. We felt it was really excellent value for money! In particular we loved the attention to detail including: - The outstanding breakfast (we have been to many hotels, including much higher rated hotels, with not as good a breakfast!) - Room service (including being able to have breakfast on the balcony!) - Being able to order pretty much anything you could want for breakfast or at any other point! - The table, chairs and cushions on each balcony - The little ice cream parlour/outdoor seating - The little bar - The local art in the dinning room - The 'proper' table service (ie. Linen/ice buckets/formal table settings/very kind and attentive waitress) - Very well trained and attentive staff who want to look after you (including even changing uniform to clean the bedrooms!) Overall, this is a gem of a hotel and one we immediately wanted to go back to!

We have just spent an amazing week at The Downs. From first stepping in the door the staff were so helpful, friendly and always went the extra mile to make our stay so amazing. The food was out of this world, I'm sure Gordon Ramsey was in the kitchen. Our room was spotless and the view from the balcony overlooking the sea will always be imprinted in our memories. Thanks again for an amazing week. Tony &Rachel
