The cottage itself is single-storey, so no stairs to manage with small children, and it has two bedrooms (one kingsize, one with two singles), a bathroom with bath and shower, and a living area with a woodburner. The Merrie Harriers pub sits 175 yards away, and Cowbeech village is close by. This corner of Wealden sits on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, making it excellent for walkers—the Cuckoo Trail, a 19-mile path following an old railway route to Eastbourne, is within reach. Michelham Priory, Herstmonceux Castle and its grounds, Drusillas Zoo and the Bluebell Railway are realistic day trips. Eastbourne's beaches are a 30-minute drive. For rainy days, Hailsham leisure centre has flumes and bowling. Note: there is an unfenced lake and streams on the wider grounds, 330 yards from the cottage.
