Chilsham Farm Nurseries - Badgers

The Wealden countryside around Herstmonceux holds working farms, historic estates, and a working observatory. Chilsham Farm Nurseries – Badgers is a standalone shepherd's hut set within 32½ acres of shared grounds on one such farm, a proper working space where sheep, geese, ducks and chickens go about their day. The hut itself is all ground floor: a bedroom with a double bed, a shower room, and a living area with an electric wood burner for warmth. A patio outside gives you somewhere to sit. One dog can stay free, though it must be kept on a lead. The grounds include a fenced pond 30 yards away.

Essentials like bed linen, towels, heating and wifi come as standard. You get private parking for one car on site. The hut suits adults and older children; younger children are not accommodated. Smoking is not permitted indoors. Herstmonceux Castle and its gardens lie nearby, as does the Observatory Science Centre. The area is known for local wine production – the region's climate supports vineyards that have won awards for sparkling varieties.
