Families and larger groups will find 1 School Cottages well-suited to a self-catering break. It sleeps six across three bedrooms: a king-size with ensuite shower, two singles, and a three-quarter double. Two full bathrooms mean less negotiation over mornings. The whole property is yours alone, with a garden to the front and side, a veranda for outdoor sitting, and parking for one or two cars.

The ground floor holds a spacious living room with an open fire, plus a kitchen and dining room equipped for proper cooking—oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and everything else needed. Upstairs you have the bedrooms and bathrooms. Central heating keeps things warm. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included; logs for the fire can be bought locally. The cottage accepts one pet. No smoking inside.

Located in Kirkby Stephen in the Eden Valley, the building was once the headmaster's house at a Victorian school complex. A shop lies 500 yards away; the Bay Horse at Winton is roughly a mile and a half off. Fells rise behind—views reach towards Coniston Old Man and the Langdales.
