Brambles Cottage is one of seven properties at Milburn Grange, on the edge of Appleby-in-Westmorland in the Eden Valley. The cottage itself has two bedrooms—a double and two singles—a bathroom with shower over the bath, and an open-plan ground floor combining living space, dining area and kitchen. One step leads to the entrance. Electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are provided; heating is electric. You have private parking for two cars and access to a lawned garden with sitting-out area and furniture, though this is shared with the other properties on site.

What distinguishes Milburn Grange is its position on two national cycle routes, plus a 40-mile circular off-road route for mountain biking. Walking starts from the door, with many trails within minutes. The rural setting near Appleby means easy access to the North Pennines, Lake District, Swaledale and Howgill Fells. The historic market town itself, centred on Boroughgate—one of England's widest main streets—sits within a loop of the River Eden and has the Settle to Carlisle Railway running through it, known for Saturday steam trains. A shop is 100 yards away; pubs and restaurants are 2½ miles off. The property does not permit smoking.

We booked for a week away as a family (including a pooch) and it was just what we needed. My wife and I have been here many years ago and loved it then and the friendliness, tranquility and beauty still do not disappoint. Located on the edge of the fells of the north Pennines this place is stunning with easy access to surrounding areas no matter what you are wanting to do. Whether you want to visit the lakes of the Lake District, shops and local business or walk the fells Milburn Grange is ideally situated to visit all. Set back away from the A66 the area is quiet and on lighter nights provides picturesque views of the surrounding valley. The number of cottages available are beautiful and comfy which is all you could really want. Plenty information was provided of things and places to go in surrounding areas by owner Russel & Debbie. Definitely a place we will be visiting again and the fact that the cottage is dog friendly with so many places allowing dogs inside we will definitely take him again too. Would recommend to all. Thank you so much for the break and memories.

Had a lovely stay in Helm Cottage for a long weekend with friends. 6 of us stayed and the cottage was big enough that we had lots of space. Also the 2 adults in the bunk bed rooms had no issues with the size at all. Debbie and Russell are lovely people and were very welcoming and offered us some local knowledge on where to eat and where to go for our day trips. The cottage itself was so clean and had everything we needed inside. Would highly recommend and will definitely stay again.

We are just back from our holiday at Milburn Grange for the second consecutive year. This is a wonderful place to stay at – cottages are cosy and well equipped, there are so many wonderful places to go within minutes, Russel and Debbie are wonderful hosts and they happily go the extra mile to make you feel at home.
