Riversdale Grasmere

This detached house dates from an era when space and solid construction mattered. The 2019 refurbishment has preserved its character while bringing the interior up to modern comfort—four bedrooms each with their own en-suite, a living room anchored by a wood burner, separate dining space, and a fully equipped kitchen. The ground floor also has a utility room and cloakroom. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are all included; logs for the wood burner are supplied initially.

The layout sleeps eight across four beds: one kingsize, one double, and two singles. Each bedroom has its own shower or bath (some with both), which means mornings run smoothly. Downstairs, you have room to spread out—the living room is genuinely spacious, and the dining area can accommodate the whole party. The kitchen has an electric range, dishwasher and all the basics for self-catering. Outside, an enclosed garden and patio catch the afternoon light, and there's parking for three cars on site.

Grasmere village is a few hundred yards away, with a shop, pub and restaurant within easy reach. Rothay Garden by Harbour Hotels is nearby for those interested in horticulture. A stream runs beside the property, and the surrounding fells are visible from the grounds. The house does not allow smoking. Children and one pet are welcome.
