Small families and couples looking for a quiet countryside base will find Rose Cottage fits well. It sleeps three across two bedrooms—a kingsize and a single—with one bathroom. The cottage accepts one dog at no extra charge, and sits in King's Meaburn village surrounded by open countryside between the North Pennines and Lake District. You get the whole place to yourself, with parking for one car and an enclosed front garden with patio.
Inside, the ground floor holds a living room with a wood burner and a kitchen/dining space equipped for proper cooking—oven, hob, dishwasher and microwave all present. Upstairs are the two bedrooms, both with wooden beams. Oil central heating, electricity, wifi, bed linen and towels come as standard; wood for the burner is also included. The village itself is quiet; the White Horse Pub sits in the centre, though it was closed at the time of writing. Appleby-in-Westmorland, a market town with shops and restaurants, is a short drive away, and Penrith offers more substantial amenities including its 14th-century castle. Walking country starts on the doorstep. Children under ten are not accommodated. Smoking is not permitted inside.
