Springwell

Springwell opens into a ground floor where the living room's wood burner becomes the natural gathering point. A separate dining room sits ready for proper meals, while the kitchen has an electric oven, hob, dishwasher and the other essentials for cooking. Upstairs are two bedrooms—a kingsize sleigh bed in one, a double in the other—and a bathroom with both bath and shower cubicle. The utility room handles laundry with a washing machine and tumble dryer. One dog is welcome here.

The cottage is built in the Arts and Crafts style and retains that character throughout. You get WiFi, parking for two cars on site, bed linen and towels included, plus the initial load of wood for the burner. The rear garden has a sitting-out area with furniture. No smoking indoors. A pub sits within a mile, and this corner of Westmorland and Furness puts you within reach of both Hawkshead and Ambleside for exploring the Lake District proper.
