Wallthwaite Cottage works well for families wanting a self-catering base in the fells, or groups of up to six looking for a whole property to themselves. The three bedrooms—one with a king bed and ensuite, one with a double, one with bunks—come with fresh linen and towels included. Two bathrooms mean less negotiating over mornings. One well-behaved dog can come along free of charge, though it must be kept on a lead in this sheep country. The cottage is no-smoking throughout.

Ground floor living centres on a wood-burner and woodwork beams, with a smart TV for quieter evenings. The kitchen has what you need for proper cooking: electric oven, dishwasher, microwave, fridge and washing machine. Heating and electricity are covered in the price, as are the initial logs for the fire. Wifi keeps you connected, and there's parking for two cars on site. The enclosed, lawned garden has a sitting area and furniture for outside days.

From the doorstep, walking and cycling routes scatter into the surrounding landscape. Keswick town centre is roughly four and a half miles away for shops and restaurants. Derwentwater and Borrowdale are within reach, as are Ullswater and Thirlmere further south. The grounds include steep, unprotected drops, and access involves narrow or spiral stairs—factors to weigh if mobility is a consideration.

A lovely cottage with quirky spaces and two staircases. The drying room is very useful and the pool table was a bonus. Dishwasher, WiFi and Netflix all worked and the beds were very comfortable. Red squirrels in the garden were a delight.

The Location of the cottage is great and the property is large with some interesting features. However it is let down by lack of attention to detail by the owners and a property that is getting tired. For example the dishwasher did not work, frankly its so old the wire plate holders were rusty. The dispenser failed and rather than just get a new one we were told by the owner that we should just throw the tablets in the bottom and it will be ok. It did work but not very well with plates etc. not always being clean. The oven was not working properly, the griddle did not work at all. The shower in one ensuite and the bath did not drain properly and the mattress in the main bedroom has collapsed on one side. After three days of using it I was looking forward to getting home!. The wifi was not working for the two weeks we were there, the owner blamed BT but you begin to wonder. There are perhaps not major issues but for a property that is £1900 a week its not what I expect. Worse the property is being advertised in 2022 at £3700 for the same week. If I had paid that I would be beyond disappointed, be warned

Can't wait to go back! We had an amazing time here for my sister's 40th birthday! The kids and the dogs absolutely loved it (although my sister's dog unfortunately had to be kept on a lead as there is no fully enclosed garden as advertised :/ ) However the house was amazing and so cosy in February. It had all home comforts and anything you could need for a week away. The views are absolutely stunning! The beds were comfy, kitchen is huge and there is even wifi. Would definitely recommend. Near to Keswick, Ullswater and Penrith. Good parking space, beautiful setting.
