Straightforward en-suite rooms with sea views at The Royal Hotel, right on the seafront at Whitley Bay.

About The Royal Hotel

Rooms at The Royal Hotel come with en-suite bathrooms, drinks available in-room, and some with views out over the sea, along with family rooms for those travelling in a group. It's fair to say the decor won't suit everyone, as some rooms are showing their age and could do with freshening up, but the basics are all covered and free WiFi is included throughout.

The hotel sits on East Parade in Whitley Bay, with a well-regarded breakfast buffet each morning including a full English. Staff are on hand to help with luggage storage and general queries, and free on-site parking is available for anyone arriving by car.

The seafront location puts the beach on the doorstep, with pubs, bars, restaurants and other eateries all within easy reach. Golf, fishing, watersports, cycling and walking routes are nearby too, along with entertainment options for evenings out, making it a practical base for exploring Whitley Bay.

Staff members are very friendly. Great location on the boulevard. Breakfast not many options but the quality was great. Delicious bacon and sausages. Room and especially the bathroom are tiny. Bed was moving/rolling and mattress too soft. I did not pay top dollar money so I would say a pleasant stay

Very disappointed room was basic and needs upgrade. Leaking toilet in bathroom. Felt we were put in a back room. No view. Breakfast was lovely and staff were really nice. Location was great.

Stayed one night in March after visiting the Playhouse - very convenient as it’s only a 5 minute walk away. Staff here were really nice but our room was not up to scratch - nice and clean, but very old fashioned and basic. Also could have done with a thicker duvet on the bed since the heating went off during the night and it was a bit airy. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment at the moment (see picture), so hopefully the rooms are or will be getting done soon. Breakfast was included in the cost and was very good - great quality well cooked food (buffet). Parking at the front of the hotel is limited and we had to park about 10 minutes away in the Bournemouth Gardens car park - £4.80 for all day (until 9am next day).

Previous reviews were a bit mixed but I was very pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic breakfast buffet in the morning with selection of full English breakfast items as well as cereals/juices plus toast and jams. Excellent location on the seafront with parking directly outside for limited number of cars. Incredible value for money and well worth a visit. The heating wasn't working in the first room I was given but reception quickly transferred me to a different room which was fine. Renovation is taking place outside but didn't affect my stay at all.
