About Norseman Hotel

Step into one of the Norseman Hotel's 48 rooms and you'll find a spacious, comfortable space to settle into after a day exploring Wick, with drinks in room and air conditioning among the small touches that make a stay easier. A lift serves all floors, and porter and concierge services are on hand for anything guests need sorting.

Downstairs, the restaurant is the heart of the place, known particularly for its Sunday carvery with a generous choice of meats and desserts, though some find the everyday restaurant menu a bit plain. There's also a bar, a snack bar, and breakfast served on site, alongside free WiFi, a garden to relax in, and meeting rooms and a wedding venue for those hosting an occasion. Staff throughout are consistently described as friendly, welcoming and attentive.

The hotel sits on Riverside in Wick, within the Highlands, with the Castle Of Old Wick nearby for a walk out, and pubs, restaurants and other eateries close by for evenings out. Free on-site parking is provided, and pets are welcome for those travelling with animals.

ALEX “GRIZZLY” YAKOVLEV

Based on the recommendations, we expected a decent dining experience at the Norseman Hotel restaurant. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the weakest meals of our trip. The only genuinely good thing was the beer. The beer itself was excellent—although even that was forgotten and had to be chased up by the staff. The biggest disappointment was the steak. I clearly asked the waiter three separate times to make sure it was cooked medium rare. Despite that, both steaks we received were cooked well done. The meat was completely overcooked, dry, and effectively ruined. If you order a steak and the kitchen cannot deliver such a basic cooking temperature, it raises serious concerns about the quality of the restaurant. To make matters worse, the vegetables served alongside were barely cooked. The carrots were almost raw, and the entire plate felt unfinished and poorly prepared. The overall impression was that the chef lacks basic steak-cooking skills, while the service staff either don’t listen to guests or fail to communicate requests to the kitchen. Service was weak throughout the evening, and we weren’t even provided with an adequate number of napkins. We left extremely disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good meal in Wick. There are undoubtedly better places to spend your money.

The staff was pleasant and the breakfast was good but the room was not clean (we found hairs in the bed, in the bathtub and everywhere on the bathroom floor). The walls are paper thin and everything looks old, even the yellowish bed sheets, which are really due for a change. We ate dinner at the restaurant and it was really bland. Would not recommend this hotel.
