About Howburn Farm Caravan Site

Up at the northern edge of the Lake District National Park, Howburn Farm is a tiny, peaceful site with spectacular mountain views – High Pike and Brae Fell rise directly opposite the pitches. This is a walker's paradise: the Cumbrian Way passes right by, numerous Wainwrights sit within easy reach, and Keswick and Derwentwater are half an hour's drive. Campers praise the immaculate shower and toilet facilities, well-maintained pitches, and the friendly, helpful hosts who also keep Highland cows on the farm.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitches are available, with chemical disposal and recycling on site. Dogs are welcome year-round, and you can bring a barbecue or hire a firepit for atmospheric evenings. The site welcomes everyone from families and motorcyclists to Duke of Edinburgh groups and rallies. There's a shop nearby, plus climbing, cycling, fishing and watersports all within striking distance of this remote, wildlife-rich corner of Cumbria.

We have just returned from a five night stay at Burns farm and what a great time we had even though the weather wasn't always in our favour. The site is family run and very well organised, we were sent all the information we needed in an email the day before with pitch number and codes for the toilet block etc. No issues straight into the site and on to our pitch. The site is kept very clean and tidy with stunning 360 views of the surrounding scenery which is very beautiful wether it was raining, snowing, hail stones or sun. Yes, we had the lot but it is the Lake District after all. The Rams (gents) wash room facilities we kept immaculate and consisted of 10 showers, 8 toilet cubicles and approx 5 sinks with 1 lower lever for children. It also had 2 blown air hand driers once again 1 at lower level for children, I think it was very similar in the Ewes (ladies) from what I was told by my wife. The reception and shop are open for a couple of hours twice each day and if you are need of other assistance there is a number to call. The site also has facilities for chemical toilet, dog washing and if I remember rightly boot/bike washing along with washing machines, dryers and a freezer for freezer packs. Like the sites Web page says the TV signal in that area is very poor so smart TV or satalite is recommended but we had no trouble with our phones running on GiffGaff. The route from the A66 to the site is plenty wide enough and not a problem for access into the site only about half mile once you leave the main road. I can honestly say I did not hear the road whilst we were there. A short walk down the lane is access to the Skelkeld to Keswick trail which follows the old rail track route. It is very well maintained and once on it would be excellent for pushchairs and youngsters on bikes etc. It is about 3 miles into Keswick using the track and takes about an hour to walk into town. We enjoyed our visits into wetherspoons. All in all we had a very peacefull relaxed break on Burns farm, the staff were helpfull and friendly, the facilities were excellent and would recommend the site without hesitation not forgetting that they have some gorgeous Highland cattle on the farm. The only problem for us is that it is a bit too far for us to travel for a weekend but we will definitely be visiting again when we have more than a weekend away in the caravan.

I bring my camper van here whenever I go mountain biking. The staff are great always friendly , toilets and showers are hands down the best I have come across on any campsite that I have ever visited. It’s a great location with Keswick town centre just around the corner but just far enough away to think you are in the middle of nowhere. The campsite it’s self is clean and well organised I would definitely recommend a stay at burns farm

Myself and partner have just spent the weekend at Burns farm staying in the Mountain View hut “Roan Tree”. This hut was perfectly modern and easy to use and we both agree this was our favourite so far glamping getaway. The staff were very helpful at Burns farm, equipping the pod with birthday balloons making our weekend away extra special. The hut was amazingly equipped with everything listed and also came with some lovely extras such as a greeting basket of food, prosecco on ice and fresh milk and orange juice. Our stay at Burns farm was perfect and the location just takes it that one step further. Highly recommend!

Beautiful location. We used the hard standing caravan pitches every time we visit the lake district every year and I can't fault them. Fantastic facilities, very clean, never smell. We love burns farm!!
