About Snittlegarth
Fancy snuggling up in a secluded shepherd's hut in the Lake District, in one of those excellent locations that feels completely removed from busy urban life yet remains conveniently placed for town time when needed? Sneak away to Snittlegarth, where a single hut sits in peaceful woodland on a quiet Cumbrian farm in the very northern reaches of the Lake District National Park – about ten minutes north of Bassenthwaite and twenty from Keswick.
It's a particularly fine base for hikers, with Skiddaw roughly twenty minutes away and several Wainwrights within easy reach. Prefer something gentler? Lakeside strolls, Honister Slate Mine and the Lake District Wildlife Park all beckon. Even so, you may well decide simply to stick around on site with a glass of wine by the firepit, watching for the red squirrels that delight many guests.
Inside, the hut's been cleverly designed to house a kingsize bed, ensuite shower, and mini kitchen with cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. Heating and a TV are included for post-ramble flopping, and dogs are welcome year-round. Just note the composting toilet – a small quirk in an otherwise thoroughly comfortable hideaway.
