About Cragwood Country House Hotel

Immaculate gardens rolling down towards Lake Windermere set the tone at Cragwood Country House Hotel, a 23-room property in Windermere built for slower, more scenic stays. Rooms are well kept and many make the most of the surrounding views, with en-suite bathrooms and in-room drinks as standard, plus accessible rooms available for those who need them.

The restaurant and bar are a genuine highlight, with breakfast and dinner both prepared with care, and there's a garden to wander and free WiFi throughout for those who want to stay connected. Practical touches include 24 hour reception, laundry service, luggage storage, meeting rooms, and free on-site parking, while dogs are welcome guests rather than an afterthought.

Beyond the grounds, the Cumbrian landscape offers walking routes, fishing, horse riding, golf and watersports nearby, with pubs and restaurants within easy reach for evenings out. It's a hotel built around its setting, and the setting does most of the talking.

We got married at Cragwood last Thursday, and my new husband, our guests, and I had the most beautiful time there. The hotel, the rooms, and the grounds are absolutely stunning. Our room was so spacious and really beautiful, with such a comfy bed and all of the amenities. All of our guests were happy with their rooms too which was great to hear. The food is exceptional, and it is obvious that so much care and thought goes into the preparation of each dish. We loved every thing we ate at Cragwood!!! What sets Cragwood apart from the rest is their incredible, hardworking, lovely staff. Each encounter we had with them was wonderful, they worked so hard in making our wedding into something truly wonderful and special, and they were a joy to be around. We're so grateful for all of their hard work in providing us with the intimate wedding of our dreams. Special shout out to Stacey and Daniel for managing the entire event, and to Grace for her impeccable service and just being super lovely. There are so many others whose names I didn't catch but I am just so grateful to you all. We have memories we will treasure for the rest of our lives and it is down to you all. I couldn't recommend Cragwood higher if you want a beautiful Lake District wedding, you will not regret it ❤️

We stayed at Cragwood Country House Hotel for our May elopement wedding and couldn't have asked for a more perfect experience. From the moment we arrived and drove up to the beautiful house and grounds, we knew we'd found somewhere special. We chose the "Just Us" elopement package and every detail was taken care of. A huge thank you to Hannah and Mathilda for helping to create such a wonderful day. The lakeside gazebo was a stunning place to get married, and every member of staff made us feel incredibly welcome and special throughout our stay. Our room was beautiful, the bridal suite had lovely lake views, and the champagne waiting on arrival was a wonderful touch. The food was exceptional, the gardens were immaculate, whilst there were other guests staying, there were always peaceful spots to relax and enjoy the scenery. Even our dog was made to feel like a VIP! We were genuinely sad to leave after our two-night stay and can't wait to return. We would highly recommend Cragwood to anyone looking for a special getaway or wedding venue.

Disappointing. We were gifted a 3-day/2-night stay at Cragwood Country House Hotel as a wedding present, so we were really looking forward to a relaxing post-honeymoon break in the Lake District. Unfortunately, our experience so far has been quite disappointing (so far!) Upon checking into our room this afternoon, I almost stepped on a needle protruding from the carpet. Thankfully I was wearing socks, which caught it before it pierced my foot. This poses a significant health and safety concern and was genuinely alarming, especially in what is expected to be a high-standard hotel environment. Another disappointment is the lack of streaming services on the TV. In 2026, access to platforms like Netflix or Prime is, in our opinion, a bare minimum expectation for hotel chains, especially one that has been recognised as one of the best hotels in Cumbria. The hotel is located in a quiet area of the Lake District where there are limited evening entertainment options, so being able to relax and watch a film in the room would have made a big difference. We recently stayed in Grasmere and had no issues streaming content there. I do want to mention that the receptionist who welcomed us was very kind, warm, and professional. He genuinely tried to help us check whether anything could be done regarding the TV streaming issue, but unfortunately there was nothing he could do. We appreciated his effort and hospitality throughout the check-in process. If the hotel wants to attract younger guests and Gen Z travellers, improving the in-room entertainment experience would make a huge difference, as streaming services are now a standard part of how many people relax during hotel stays. We had also expected that, given the hotel’s beautiful lakeside location, the rooms would offer lake-facing views. Instead, our room overlooks the entrance and parking area, which was disappointing for what was meant to be a special post-honeymoon trip. This is only our first day of a 3-day stay, so we are hoping the remainder of our visit improves. The setting itself is lovely, and the staff we have interacted with have been welcoming, but based on our experience so far, the stay has not matched expectations.

My partner has just supplied some catering equipment and he brought my mum up to this lovely hotel for a ride out while I was working. My mum was greeted by Grace who looked after her very well while my partner collected the equipment back in. Thankyou so much Grace and from my mum. She said you were absolutely lovely.
