About The Lighthorseman
The Lighthorseman suits visitors who want a proper pub at the heart of their stay rather than a purely functional base. It sits on Fulford Road in York, within walking distance of the city centre, making it a practical choice for anyone planning to spend their days exploring on foot and their evenings without needing to travel far for dinner.
Rooms are comfortable and straightforward, and the pub downstairs is the real draw, with a good range of draught beers and ciders, including hand-pulled cask ales, plus a food menu built around solid options like burgers and chicken. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful. Worth noting: some guests have found the rooms can pick up noise, so light sleepers might want to factor that in. Breakfast is available, there's a bar and restaurant on site, a garden, free WiFi, 24 hour reception, and meeting rooms for those combining leisure with work.
Free on-site parking is provided, which is a genuine advantage in a city where parking can otherwise be a headache. From here, York's central attractions are within easy reach on foot, making the hotel a sensible base for short breaks focused on sightseeing by day and a good pint by night.

What guests say
Located within walkable distance from the York centre. Rooms are clean and big, however, one of the bedrooms has a noisy boiler. Ordered breakfast but it was not great

Room size is fine and has ensuite bathroom. Extractor fan doesn't work in bathroom, but otherwise it's good - shower works great. Bed is comfy. Room is nice with no odours. Walls are somewhat thin - can hear snoring from next door. Service is excellent. Pub seems ok.

Stayed here for 2 nights. Location was good. Room was adequate. The plumbing was very noisy as in you could hear next doors toilet cistern filling up. Pub grub was good. Only cooked option for breakfast was a full English which was tasty because they had gluten free sausages and toast.

Great place to stay. Not to expensive and short walk to all the main York attractions would defintly stay here again. The lady who checked us in was great at telling us bits of info for our stay over a drink that we wouldn't have known other wise
