8B Monkbar Mews is a ground-floor apartment equipped for genuine comfort rather than compromise. The kitchen handles proper cooking—electric oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine all there—so you can prepare meals rather than hunt for restaurants every night. The open-plan living space has a Smart TV with Netflix, a dining table, and enough natural light that you won't feel hemmed in. The bedroom contains a double bed and a single bed. A shower room with heated towel rail completes the layout. Wifi, electricity, bed linen and towels are all included; there's also private parking for one car on site.
The mews sits directly alongside York's medieval city walls, with Monkbar gateway a few paces from the door. This puts you within walking distance of the Minster, the Viking Centre, the Castle Museum and the Railway Museum. The Museum Gardens and Rowntree Park are nearby if you want quieter moments by the river. You're in the thick of the city centre without being in a noisy tourist strip. The apartment is no-smoking.

We had a wonderful stay, although the weather was awful, it made all the difference knowing we had our warm apartment to come back to. It was spotlessly clean and finished to a high standard. There was everything we needed and it was very comfortable all round. The doorstep was a little bigger than I'd thought but as an ambulatory wheelchair user I coped with it, they had told me about it. The communication from them was professional yet friendly. I would definitely recommend them. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Hi this a good place to stay for 5 days. The location is brilliant, just outside the city walls near Monk Bar Gate, so everything was within walking distance. However, we were expecting to do a food shop at Sainsbury's which, according to the visitor info in the apartment, was 5 minutes walk away. Sainsbury's is closed! apparently some time ago. Nearest food-store now appears to be ASDA or Waitrose. Both require a car journey. The kitchen/dining/lounge is well proportioned and comfortable. It would benefit from having a cupboard for dry foodstuff. We struggled with two small children to stop them from unpacking the bags! The ground floor bedrooms were comfortable if a little small. There was no place for storing clothes other than a tiny hanging rail. The ground floor rooms had a skylight roof light which is fine except that the blind was manually controlled by standing on the bed to open/close it. It would benefit from a self-closing mechanism for the mature guests. The bathrooms were clean and ok except for the wash hand basin. It was impossible to shave without lots of water ending up on the floor. The basins are far too small! The entrance door to our apartment is part of a bi-fold door system which I expect would be great in the summer months but the door was very difficult to open and close. The external paved area between the car parking area and the apartment was very slippy and required extreme care to negotiate. A small salt bin would have been a good idea. I hope my comments are taken in the spirit of constructive criticism. We would certainly return in future.

Had a lovely stay for new year. The apartment had everything we needed..very comfortable beds and really big..lovely and warm.. no noise at all. I would have given 5 star. Our only criticism was the shower over the bath, could not control the temperature to be cooler. The water was so hot could not stand under properly, and one of the showers downstairs the opposite , could not get hot water. Apart from that fab. Would go back..
