About The Fat Badger
York's historic streets, including High Petergate itself, are on the doorstep here, with York Castle Museum among the local points of interest within easy reach and the wider city's pubs, restaurants and entertainment all close by. The Fat Badger makes a handy base for exploring on foot, with no parking on site but plenty to walk to instead.
The hotel has 12 rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, and guests can expect the basics covered with free WiFi and drinks available in the room. There's a restaurant and bar downstairs, breakfast is served, and kids' meals are available for families. Laundry service and 24-hour reception add convenience, and luggage storage is useful for those exploring before or after a stay.
The pub side of the property has built a reputation for its food, particularly Sunday roasts and burgers, and there's a garden with outdoor seating that guests have nicknamed a secret hideaway for a drink outside. The atmosphere is generally cosy and the staff friendly, though service has occasionally been described as inattentive. For those wanting more, golf and fishing are available nearby, alongside the city's own restaurants and bars.

What guests say
Excellent stay at the Fat Badger York! Such a beautiful venue and hands down one of the best beer gardens in York with an excellent view of the Minster. The staff (especially Mike, Debbie and Zahra) were excellent and really made us feel at home. Food was fantastic and the rooms were gorgeous. Can't wait to come back when we're next in the area!!

Stayed for one night as was away for work. Checked in smoothly. Is around a 10 min walk from the car park which cost £22.50 a night so maybe don’t park in the one they suggest on the website! Room really nice, a little on the dark side as all the bulbs are dim. Don’t expect a lie in as there’s lots of noise in the morning and being an old building is creaky. I ordered room service which was super easy with a QR code and very prompt! Breakfast was10/10, black pudding absolutely delicious! Would return

Food was diabolical today in the beer garden, took a long long time to come and my turkey pastrami ciabatta was only half filled . Plates were so hot the side salad was already wilted and the bread and filling was warming up due to the residual heat of the plate. Completely inedible. The beer garden was exceptionally busy but if you can’t cope with the numbers and serve decent quality food then you shouldnt be serving it.

We had a table booked inside, unfortunately main/small plates took an hour to get to us. However the staff were extremely apologetic and offered a round of drinks on the house. I can not fault the food, drinks or atmosphere, the staff are fantastic but I did feel that they were a little overwhelmed. However I will say a beautiful place to eat and drink with fantastic staff, but maybe not at peak times as it is a tourist hotspot xxx
