About The Pierhouse Hotel
Fresh oysters, lobster and a well-loved fish pie form the backbone of the kitchen at The Pierhouse Hotel, alongside a broad wine list served up with views across the loch. The restaurant and bar have a relaxed, cosy feel, and the setting by the water in Port Appin gives every table something to look at, whatever the weather is doing outside.
The hotel has 12 rooms, with breakfast included and drinks available in room. Guests also have access to free WiFi, air conditioning, a lift, a garden and laundry service, while free on-site parking makes arriving by car straightforward. The hotel also hosts weddings, and staff are attentive and quick to help with whatever's needed.
Beyond the restaurant, Appin and the surrounding stretch of Argyll and Bute offer further pubs, bars and eateries nearby, along with entertainment options for evenings out. Connel Ferry station lies some distance away at 15.56 miles, so a car is the practical way to reach the hotel and explore the loch-side surroundings.
What guests say
We had a wonderful lunch at The Pierhouse Hotel in Port Appin. The setting is simply stunning, with incredible views across the bay towards Lismore, making it a beautiful place to relax and enjoy a meal. The food was excellent, and the staff were all very polite, friendly and helpful, making us feel genuinely welcome. As the weather took a turn for the worse, the cosy log fire was a real treat and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. A fantastic lunch in a spectacular location. We wouldn't hesitate to return and highly recommend it.

A beautiful well presented restaurant in a beautiful building and location looking west to the isle of Lismore withitstoes in the sea. The sea food served by the very attentive and helpful staff was very good. A good choice of wines and spirits too. We were here in high season with calm warm weather, but we'd love to come back to stay on a stormy day for the atmosphere . A great place too if you like wild swimming or kayaking. Parking is okay although we did feel resented by the locals who were noticeably unfriendly.

The Pierhouse is a restaurant with rooms in a stunning West Highlands location, 4-miles down a single lane road on the shore of Loch Linnhe opposite the island of Lismore. It has great food, comfortable accommodation and a mesmerising view in any weather – but most of all it has incredibly genuine warmth and hospitality. Spearheaded by GM Fiona McLean and Chef Michael Leathley, it’s the kind of hospitality that attracts a clientele from 18 to 80, some turning up in Rolls Royces others by kayak, paddle board, cycle or on foot. All are made to feel welcome. Now let’s talk food, as Michael’s close relationship with local suppliers ensures it’s superb. Loch Creran oysters shucked to order and served natural or deliciously deep-fried; boiled Loch Linnhe langoustines with house-made tarragon mayo (the boats drop them at the door daily); tiny Loch Leven mussels in a cider sauce with apple and tarragon; hand-dived scallops baked under a pastry lid; crispy crab cakes. Lobsters that are kept live in a creel at the end of the pier and venison from Shuna Island in the Loch. I’m also still thinking about a salad of red witlof, radicchio and cos with artichoke, olives and hazelnuts which sounded a tad complex but tasted great! Delish desserts too including caramel apple tart and mille-feuille with rhubarb, crowdie (Scottish cottage cheese), ginger and oats. Breakfast may be the best I’ve ever had in Scotland (where breakfasts are often a treat) – from superb freshly pressed apple juice to Isle of Mull Cheddar scone with poached egg, ham and excellent Hollandaise, or perhaps brioche French toast with bacon and golden syrup, or the fullest ‘full Scottish’ I’ve seen. The dining room has great views of the loch, so look out for a complimentary breakfast rainbow too! The public rooms are cosy and comfortable as are the bedrooms, some of which have beautiful views of the loch others looking out over the cute back rockery.

Charming hotel in a beautiful setting! We only stayed here one night, but I wish it could have been longer. The drive down the one lane road was a little intimidating, but that's what we've come to expect in the Scottish Highlands. We pulled up to the hotel, and the view of the Loch was outstanding. The service was wonderful, the rooms were cute, and the restaurant was fantastic. We enjoyed an amazing dinner with the best fish & chips we'd ever had, and my sister said the oysters were one of the best things she's ever had in her life. The included breakfast the next morning was delicious as well. I enjoyed the full Scottish, some people had French toast, and someone else had the porridge, which doesn't sound great but he said was really really good. Servers both at dinner and breakfast were friendly and polite and accommodating. We took an early morning walk along the footpath behind the hotel to the stone arch, and then walked up the lane to the craft store. Everything about the location is quaint, and beautiful and charming. The bartender was great, the bar area a nice place for a drink and to watch the ferry go back and forth. I loved everything about this hotel. The solitary drawback (and it wasn't even that much of a problem) was the shower was a little cramped, but the hotel rooms are smaller and I understand the space saving situation in the bathrooms. Other than that, everything about our stay was a dream. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place.
