Bala Camping and Caravanning Club Site

We are at this campsite now, almost at the end of our two week long stay, and can highly recommend it. Near Bala, it's a great base for exploring the area - most places of interest, castles, major towns etc - are all about an hour and a bit's drive away - and it's in a lovely quiet location itself. The site is immaculate, the toilet blocks/showers very well maintained and serviced, and the pitches are generously sized and not crammed close together like at many campsites now. The staff were very welcoming when we arranged have been very friendly and helpful, but not intrusive, since then. (It was very nice they checked up on me personally after I was a bit poorly one day, I appreciated that) Our pitch is fantastic, in a quiet corner, shaded with trees - much appreciated by our rescue cat, who always comes with us (but doesn't go outside) - and our neighbours have been quiet, tho we had some for a few days who thought that the sounds of Nature needed supplementing with Radio One from the moment they got up. (They're only young, they'll learn how precious peace and quiet is at a place like this!) There's a small shop here, with a fridge full of cold cans, choc bars and water, and a very welcome ice cream freezer (although beware, all the lush salted caramel Magnums go fast!). I've brought my telescope with us and have enjoyed some gorgeous views of the Moon through it, because the site is dark and not lit up like an oil rig like many sites are these days. Having said that, the block where people can empty chemical toilets has bright, unshielded lights on the outside which aren't a problem for us where we are, but I'd think they're probably quite intrusive for people camped closer? (As a stargazer who camps a lot I'd definitely recommend putting shields on those just to improve the overall "dark sky appeal" and marketability of the site.) So, as our stay draws to an end I only have good things to say about the site and its very friendly, very hard working staff. If you're looking for a great touring base in this part of Wales, with great customer care and a decent shopping town nearby, but not *too* nearby, you'll struggle to find better, I'm sure. And if you're a plane spotter you'll love it even more, because the RAF is very active in this part of Wales, and jets and heavy cargo craft often fly right over the site, bringing extra excitement to your trip to fill up your water barrel or empty your toilet cassette... ;-)

Had a lovely relaxing break, quiet and peaceful the site is extremely well maintained,clean and tidy the managers Sheree & Steve where approachable and friendly nothing was too much trouble always greeted us with a smile and stopped to chat. They was always out cutting the grass,strimming and keeping the site clean and tidy. highly recommend the site and the managers are a credit to the company

Beautiful clean site. Toilet and washing up facilities spotless all the time with free hairdryers! Laundry room onside with washer dryer iron and board. Staff really helpful. Plenty of dog bins to keep the area clean. Motorhome service point. Stream and sheep in the field behind the site means waking up to baas from the tiny lambs is a welcome from city living.

Nice site and friendly staff. It was quiet but it was the first week of the season. Some walks nearby but a car is needed for Bala and other visits.
