Hen Hafod works well for families or groups of six wanting their own space in rural Gwynedd. The cottage sits at the end of a farm road on working land, giving genuine privacy and views across open countryside. Three bedrooms—two doubles and one with two singles—plus two bathrooms mean everyone has room to spread out. A cot and highchair are available for younger children.
The interior has real character: a black range in the main living room, slate floors and exposed beams in the kitchen and living areas, and two separate staircases to the bedrooms upstairs. The kitchen is equipped for self-catering, and there is a second living room as well. Electricity and bed linen are included. Outside, there is a lawned garden with furniture and a walled sitting area. One small dog is welcome. No smoking throughout.
Bala itself, about a mile away, has a lake for sailing and water sports, and the cottage's position on the edge of Snowdonia National Park means walks start from the door and scenic drives by car or bike are close at hand. A pub is within a mile, and shops are roughly 1.5 miles away.

Hidden gem! We had a super nice stay here for a week. Feels super relaxed and in the middle of nowhere, with a huge yard and sheep that come to say hello every morning. And you’re actually super close to a town and a great lake. Would definitely recommend it with young kids as well. The owners are also super nice. We’re definitely gonna come back here!

Beautiful stone house hidden in the Welsh countryside, five minute drive from village Bala, great location, lovely host who checked in on us, magical place to spend our Christmas, we have rebooked it for our little late summer trip in 2024, looking forward to coming back. If you are looking for a nice quiet place away from everything but still want to be close enough for the shops/ local pubs and take aways then this is it .

Very peaceful, quiet location, well equipped kitchen with everything you need, 3 fantastic bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, dining room and a lovely beautiful living room, slate floors downstairs and fireplaces. We came away with our 2 boys, dog and outlaws, we all had the best time away, really enjoyed sharing our space with the sheep and Highland cow's. Owners were amazing and checked on us from time to time when they were here tending to the sheep. Definitely be back soon. Thank you Hen Hafod for a lovely 7 days away x
