About Loch Kinord Hotel
The Loch Kinord Hotel is a country inn-style hotel at Dinnet, on the A93 five miles east of Ballater and close to Aboyne, run by a local family who also manage a small collection of self-catering woodland lodges on the same grounds. Its twenty-two rooms and suites are decorated in an understated, traditional style that suits its setting on the quieter, less touristy stretch of Deeside around the Muir of Dinnet nature reserve.
The hotel's restaurant and bar serve a straightforward, locally sourced menu, though the kitchen's hours are limited on some nights, so guests are generally encouraged to check availability before booking a table for dinner. Its bar has a relaxed, unpretentious character in keeping with the hotel's family-run feel.
Both family and pet-friendly, Loch Kinord suits visitors who want to be based a short drive from Ballater and Aboyne rather than in the centre of either, with easy access to the walking trails and lochs of the Dinnet reserve directly on the doorstep.

Had a good stay here. Good location and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Food was more on the pricey side, but was delicious and good quality. Only negative was that the rooms seemed abit small for what I paid for, feeling slightly cramped. Yet it was clean and in good order.

We stayed here for 4 nights, the staff really went the extra mile to look after us and make our stay comfortable. The hotel is well presented with spacious lounge, and a lawn with tables and chairs for sitting outside. Great base for exploring Royal Deeside, very close to Ballater which has lots of facilities.

Stayed in this lovely hotel for two nights. The food was great! Rooms and staff were lovely. Especially our server Olivia, who kindly provided chai tea for us.

Charming step back in time – with some trade-offs Walking into this hotel feels like stepping 50 years back in time — and we actually loved that! Of course, you have to be a fan of that nostalgic atmosphere, and it may not be for everyone. But in this landscape, it fits beautifully. The first room we were assigned was very small, with a tiny bed of poor quality. After mentioning this, we were offered a larger room with a better bed for an additional fee — which we really appreciated. Well done! Breakfast had limited options, but what was available was tasty. The coffee wasn't quite what we're used to, but that seemed to be the case throughout Scotland. We ended up having dinner three times at the hotel, and the food was delicious every time! The staff was incredibly friendly and easy-going, which made the stay all the more pleasant. One small downside: no price list was available for the drinks, which we found a bit inconvenient. In short: This hotel is definitely worth recommending — but we’re not entirely sure we’d return, mainly due to the basic room quality. Perhaps the lodges could be a better option? Though we're unsure if those are available for just two guests...
