About The Ayrlington

Pulteney Road runs along the edge of Bath close to the River Avon, and it's here that The Ayrlington makes its home, within easy walking distance of Pulteney Bridge and the city centre beyond. The setting is quieter than the busier tourist streets, with a garden giving guests somewhere to sit outside, and free on-site parking removing one of the usual headaches of visiting Bath by car.

The 19 rooms are individually decorated and generally spacious, giving each a slightly different character rather than a uniform hotel feel. Breakfast is cooked fresh each morning and is consistently one of the things guests remember most fondly. There's also a bar on site, free WiFi throughout, luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures, and childcare can be arranged for families who need it.

Staff are friendly and the overall welcome is warm, though service has occasionally been described as inconsistent, so experiences can vary. For exploring further afield, the position on Pulteney Road makes it a straightforward base for reaching Bath's centre on foot and for onward trips into Somerset.

Just got back from a short stay. Have to say it's a nice hotel but a bit tired. My first impression wasn't good as all the plants in the window boxes had been left to die. Our room The Garden room was big with everything you need and a comfortable bed. Very quiet with a nice view of the garden. It's location is excellent being a short and picturesque 10-15 minutes walk away from Bath Centre. The staff are lovely and extremely helpful with nothing being too much trouble. Parking at £10 per night is handy as well and reasonable conpared to parking on the streets. Breakfast is really good with cereal, fruit and yoghurt and a choice of full English, various choices of eggs and even smoked salmon . All in all we had a lovely stay But please water those plants!

Anita and the team were so friendly and welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The hotel is in a lovely quiet location just outside of the city centre but only a short walk away. There are lovely views across the recreation grounds and over the beautiful hotel gardens, if you have a garden facing room. The rooms are spacious and are beautifully and individually decorated to give a different feel and style to each room. The cooked breakfast was delicious and again the service was excellent giving a welcoming and homely feel. Parking is available at the hotel at a reasonable cost per night. There was space for us to park in the car park but otherwise you are provided with a permit to park on the road. The car park is a little tight but you just need to take your time.

This hotel is quite easy walking distance into the main "old" part of town ... Bath Abbey, Roman Baths, River Avon, multiple churches, tons of restaurants. We loved our spacious room with a gorgeous high ceiling and updated bathroom. It felt like pure luxury after our cramped stay in London. We chose to enjoy their breakfast after an early morning walk down the river and around the Royal Victoria Gardens. There is an additional upcharge for the breakfast; but it was heaty and delicious with multiple options on the menu. There's a lovely little garden where you can sit out in the evening. It's in an old estate house, so there is no A/C -- which meant it was quite hot when we were there. But they provided a fan, and the windows opened so we could bring in some cooler air once the sun went down. It felt clear that the staff wanted to make our stay quite nice.

We stayed in the Poppy room and overall had a mixed experience. The room itself was beautiful, spacious, and clean. The bathroom and shower were stunning, and we really appreciated the small thoughtful touches like the rolled towels with chocolate and the welcome note. The location is also great, about a 10–15 minute walk from everything, and parking at £10 per night was very reasonable. Breakfast staff were lovely and worked hard. However, for a hotel that claims to be 5-star, there were several disappointing aspects. There’s no dinner service at all, and the breakfast selection was limited, with a very small dining area. Some reception staff were also unfriendly, particularly when we called ahead to ask about parking slightly earlier, which left a poor impression. Service and amenities didn’t match 5-star expectations at all. There was no mini fridge in the room, no lift, and we had to carry our own luggage. On one occasion, we were told there was no milk or biscuits available due to low stock/waiting on delivery, which felt unacceptable at this level. Overall, while the room and some staff were great, the service, facilities, and overall experience was closer to a 3-star than a 5-star hotel. There’s definitely potential, but improvements are needed from management and owners. I would not recommend paying full price and booking directly through them. I booked via a voucher website and if i had paid full price i would have been quite unhappy and would have requested a partial refund based on the poor service offered by the reception and management overall.
