The Gainsborough Bath Spa

We had an absolutely wonderful family stay at The Gainsborough Bath Spa and cannot recommend this hotel enough. From the amenities to the staff, everything was flawless. World-Class Service: Li Lian at the front desk gave us the warmest welcome and went out of her way to accommodate our family and make our daughter feel special. The Rooms & Amenities: The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the room layout was perfect for us. We loved the complimentary mini-fridge drinks and the excellent turndown service. The spa facilities are stunning, a must-visit whether you are an early riser or looking to unwind at the end of the day. Amex FHR Perks: Booking through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts was seamless, and the breakfast and spa credits were fantastic perks at this property. While the menu was limited, we enjoyed our breakfast at the restaurant each morning. Location & Parking Tip: You are super close to everything in Bath. If you plan to park, book the hotel lot in advance. The concierge was brilliant, they gave us perfect directions to navigate there and took care of our bags while we sorted the car. The Extra Touch of Hospitality: After checking out and arriving in our next city, we realized our daughter had left her favorite, most cherished stuffed toy behind. We reached out to the hotel that night. By the next morning, the staff at The Gainsborough had already located it and set up shipping to send it directly to our home. They saved the day for our daughter, and that level of genuine care is exactly why we will absolutely be back!

We had the most wonderful stay at The Gainsborough Bath Spa. The service was fantastic. A special mention to Solange who, as front of house, couldn't have made us feel more welcome. Thank you - wonderful hospitality. The rooms were luxurious, the spa was wonderful and the bar and restaurant were great. It's rare that I find a place so consistently top class and this hotel nailed it. Well done and thank you.

The BEST stay!!! We visited the Gainsborough on Monday 29th June. Immediately we were blown away by the buildings external nostalgic appeal of an 18th century grade 2 listed building. When we arrived, we were welcomed with a warm smile by front desk & an upgrade to the King's Suite which was the cherry on top as we were there to celebrate my mothers birthday. We were offered complimentary mini bar. When we entered our room we discovered a complimentary bottle of wine and was blessed with the subtle sounds of classical music echoing throughout the suite (a nice touch from hotel staff/management). The kings suite featured 18th century fittings/fixtures, king-size bedroom with, TV, built in wardrobe & a LARGE en suite bathroom with a shower/bath and additional shower further down the bathroom. There was a separate living room with a large TV, mini fridge (fully stocked) and magazines detailing the rich history of Bath. Our room/living rooms overlooked the famous Roman baths/bath Thermae spa! No complaints. The spa was 20/10! Just exceptional from the airconned ice room with lavender infused clothes to aid relaxation & calm, the infared sauna, to the 3 natural thermal baths at different temperatures (warm, warmer/spa bath with jacuzzi built into the seats & hot bath) our favourite was the hot bath 😍 and traditional sauna (was extremely hot). We left with skin feeling silky, smooth & just blessed. Breakfast was exceptional! Great vegan cooked breakfast and whilst we waited were spoiled by the all you can eat buffet whcih also had a good variety of vegan options from fruits, breads, spreads/jams, vegan spread, seeds, cereal, nuts and so on, we were served by really kind waiter and looked after. My favourite part about breakfast was the fresh juice & and decadent environment the breakfast was served in. When we were leaving, we were provided with complimentary bottled water by the extremely kind concierge to aid our long drive back to the Midlands . We were spoiled from start to finish, will be revising this spa hotel annually for our birthdays from now (we are both born in June). Highly recommend this place if you're looking for natural thermal spa, with healing properties in an iconic historic city. BIG UP THE GAINSBOROUGH, THEIR TEAM & MANAGEMENT - this has been our best stay in 2026. One Love 💚💛❤️

Some reviews are easy because there is a balance between the good and the bad, you can say this was good and this was bad and let people make up their own minds. This one is a little harder, I couldn’t find anything wrong, is this the perfect hotel and getaway, possibly… Let’s start with the hotel itself, it is stunning, tucked away but also walking distance from pretty much everything, the main lobby is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and easy to get to. The room - It was one of the courtyard rooms, it was spacious, clean, well-appointed and the bed was wonderful, the courtyard is accessible from the room itself through some French doors and very private, it has a good sized TV and the bathroom was wonderful, they give you good quality loo paper (Yes, that’s more important than you think.) Tea and coffee with a coffee machine and the room even had a radio. All in all, 10/10. The Bar – It is a small personal bar, but there are lounges to relax so plenty of space even though it feels personal, a huge selection of drinks and cocktails to choose from and expertly put together and severed by staff that know what they are doing, we will talk about them soon. The Restaurant – We had breakfast and 1 evening meal here, and the food was amazing, good quality and cooked to perfection, and excellent range to choose from, good portion sizes and served quickly without being rushed. The Staff – Well what can I say? The staff were second to none, from the minute we walked through the door and were shown to our room, to the Bar man Chris, to the staff in the restaurant, they were happy, friendly, helpful in every way, nothing was too much trouble and I genuinely felt like I was at home, it felt that relaxed and enjoyable. As you walked around the place, if staff saw you, they would say hi, that is rarer than you think and makes all the difference. Cost – Is it pricey, yes to be honest, would I pay and go again… In a heartbeat, worth every penny, the bar and restaurant prices are reasonable, and I can honestly say you get what you pay for. I like to try and pick something up, as nowhere is perfect, but this was an amazing few days away, all I can say is they need to put a reception arrow sign on wall as you leave the first lift as you come out from the courtyard rooms, it’s not obvious, that’s it and I am being picky now. Kudos to you and your team, see you again.
