Craig-y-Dderwen was built in 1890 as a private house for a Midlands industrialist before its conversion to a hotel in the 1920s, and it remains one of the grandest addresses in Betws-y-Coed. The building sits in eighteen acres of grounds overlooking the Conwy Valley, a short walk from the village centre yet with a genuine sense of seclusion once inside the gates.
The eighteen bedrooms are traditionally furnished in keeping with the house's character, and the hotel's restaurant has held an AA Rosette every year since 2006, drawing on local Welsh produce for its menus. There is a choice of lounges and a bar for guests wanting a quieter evening after a day on the hills.

Our friend very kindly gifted us a luxury afternoon tea here as a wedding present. It was just wonderful. Mark was very attentive and brilliant fun to talk to. Delicious food and very good portion sizes. Beautiful hotel and views to watch from a cosy vantage point on a rainy day. Really highly recommend. We walked the Fairy Glen afterwards and the local village is lovely as well.

A traditional country house hotel in a peaceful location. As you can imagine the rooms are cosy and a little old fashioned, with comfortable beds and modern amenities. The best part of our stay was dinner. This was one of the best meals I’ve had in the U.K.! The chef has Michelin credentials and it shows. Each dish was immaculately designed and prepared. Breakfasts were less inspiring, with undercooked poached eggs and curiously a hunt to find a black pepper grinder! Generally a good value hotel in a blessed setting with exceptional cuisine (for dinner).

Stayed here for two nights and thought it was a lovely experience. The hotel is beautiful with an incredible peaceful garden overlooking a small river. What really makes the place stand out is the staff - everyone was so genuinely friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend to anyone.

If you are looking for a cosy spot to stay with your four-legged friend, look no further than Craig-y-Dderwen Riverside Hotel. We brought our whippet along for the night and we all felt incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. We stayed in a Standard Room which was brilliant; it was spacious enough for the dog and extremely cosy for us. It’s rare to find a standard room that feels this comfortable and well-appointed. The location is absolutely ideal. Being right in Betws-y-Coed, the hotel is perfectly situated for exploring Snowdonia, with stunning scenery and walks right on the doorstep. The hotel itself has a lovely, peaceful vibe that makes it perfect for a recharge after a day outdoors. It was an excellent stay from start to finish, and we can’t wait to come back
