About Ty Gwyn Hotel
Ty Gwyn began life as a coaching inn on the old London to Holyhead road and dates back some four hundred years, standing just beside Waterloo Bridge at the southern edge of Betws-y-Coed. The Ratcliffe family has run it since 1982, and much of the building's original character survives in low beamed ceilings, exposed timber and a collection of antiques gathered over the decades.
Bedrooms are split between the main inn and an adjoining building, with individual character rather than a uniform modern finish, and the restaurant has built a strong local reputation for its menus of Welsh lamb, seafood and game served in wood-panelled dining rooms.
Its position by the river and the bridge puts guests within a few minutes' walk of the village centre and the station, while the on-site bar remains a popular stop for locals as well as residents, giving the hotel a lived-in, genuinely Welsh atmosphere rather than a purely tourist-facing one.

My wife & I had dinner here after a day of kayaking. Omg! Amazing! What a surprise. We were craving fish & enjoyed the scallops for a starter followed by the local trout & hake with ginger. Was really tasty. I would recommend this if visiting the area.

Warning! On booking.com it says 4 stars. For me it’s not even 3 stars… Do not stay there if: you get room 1 (bathroom can’t be locked from outside, so you need to always take your stuff back to the room), you can‘t put up with noise (neighbors extremely audible), don’t want drunk guys come to your car and tell you it’s dangerous to park in front of the hotel, need a good matrass to sleep on (I felt springs although I weigh 60kg only, it also wobbles), want to be in town quickly (20min walk to Pizza place along a busy street), want an early breakfast (milk was already empty, no water, no eggs etc before 8am, but for hikers that‘s a bummer), want detailed info about the region (noone could give us info about the hiking routes although Bewts‘y-Coed is actually famous for hiking location commuting etc.), I did not understand the hype about the town (village) compared to Llangollen for instance. So wouldn‘t recommend it in general. However, the staff was sweet! Staff was sweet!

We only went in to eat and the service was great as he sat us down and was very polite getting our drinks order and our food order as a waiter myself he was very nice not too attentive but just the right amount needed. The food was excellent home cooked very tasty. 5 stars 👍🏻would recommend

Really nice hotel with a lot of historic character. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast choice and quality was really good too. Do be aware that it is a fairly busy restaurant too, so if you're a guest and fancy a drink at the bar you may not be accomadated. Rooms were well set up with the expected facilities, only a 15 minute walk to Betws-y-Coed with a small car park.
