London Pub Map

🚇 Brixton 🍺 £6.70 Amstel The Ferndale is located in the heart of Brixton, just off the busy Brixton Road. The nearest Tube is Brixton. The building was originally constructed in 1906 as an extension of the Bon Marché department store. Bon Marché, which opened nearby on Brixton Road in 1877, was the first purpose-built department store in the UK. For nearly ten years, it operated as Canova Hall before closing in March 2026. Following refurbishment, the venue reopened as The Ferndale on April 1 and is part of Urban Pubs & Bars’ stable of pubs. This is a good-sized, high-ceilinged, traditionally decorated pub with an industrial edge. The island servery is the focal point, with the bar area wrapping around it. The bar area has two distinct sections, with drinking at the front, dining at the back, and some seating outside. The decor comprises an exposed concrete floor and ceiling, traditional high and low seating, and a vast, eclectic mix of framed photos and brass chandeliers. My favourite features were the frosted windows and the riveted vertical girders. The beer line-up will please the masses, with a bit of something for everyone. I decided on an Amstel, my pint hit the spot, price point was above average. The food menu features pub classics and pizzas. Fish and chips cost £19.50, and roasts are available on Sundays. I arrived at 5pm on a pleasant Friday afternoon in April. The pub was fairly quiet, with a few punters in for a beer and a few tucking into some grub at the rear. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, with a soulful soundtrack playing in the background. The service was great; the chap who served me was welcoming and friendly. The pub shows live sports, hosts a pub quiz on Mondays, and DJs spin tunes on weekends. Although it isn’t a traditional pub building, I was impressed with the conversion and the refurbishment. My pint was enjoyable, the atmosphere was easygoing, and I was made to feel welcome. Most definitely a nice spot for a pint. 📅 10th April 2026
