About The Millers Arms
Built in 1826 to serve the workers at the nearby mill, the Millers Arms sits on Mill Lane beside the Great Stour, on the quiet northern edge of the walled city. It is owned by Shepherd Neame, the Faversham brewer that claims to be Britain's oldest, so the bar pours a proper range of Kentish ales alongside the usual lagers, wines and spirits. The pub is smart rather than spit-and-sawdust: warm modern decor, an inglenook fireplace and a courtyard garden that catches the afternoon sun.
Upstairs there are twelve en-suite bedrooms, comfortably furnished and better appointed than pub accommodation often is, with a few enjoying glimpses of the cathedral towers. This is the sensible middle option in Canterbury: considerably cheaper than the four-star hotels, more characterful than a chain, and with dinner and a decent pint waiting downstairs.
The position is quietly excellent. You are a five-minute walk from the cathedral and the High Street but on a residential lane rather than in the middle of the nightlife, with the river, the Kings Mile and Northgate close by, and Canterbury West station about ten minutes away. Booking direct through the pub's own site usually secures a discount over the third-party rates, and there is a small amount of parking, which is worth confirming when you reserve.

We had a wonderful stay here! The beds were very comfortable. The room was spacious. The fan was perfect on a warm summer evening. It was a Saturday night and the noise wasn’t terrible in our room. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the inn, both were quite delicious. We would highly recommend staying here.

We stayed here for one night. Location is great, with the weirs and garden opposite with swans and other water birds. It’s a short walk to the center of the city but it’s no where near as busy. The staff were so helpful and polite. The pub is full if character plus seating in front and behind. The breakfast was very good as well. It is definitely worth staying here.

We loved our stay here. Stayed for 4 nights. Paul the manager was brilliant, very welcoming, helpful, friendly. As was the lady who served our breakfast everyday (didn't get her name) Breakfast was lovely. Rooms a wee bit tired but clean and well presented. Fantastic location for everything you need to seein the city. Close to local amenities and parking just across the road at a very reasonable £16 per day. The hotel itself is situated in a lovely spot beside the river and lovely gardens, peaceful spot. Other reviews mention noise of people at the bar in the evenings, but if you're going to stay on top of a pub, what do you expect?! For the record, we didn't encounter the noise other reviews have mentioned. If you are planning a trip to Canterbury, look no further than this place. I can't recommend it enough. Myself , my husband and 7 friends ate in here last night after a show at the Marlowe. It's a great location and the pub itself is cosy and welcoming. We arrived really early but the staff accommodated us. All of the food was brought out at the same time, piping hot and of really good quality. So good in fact I didn't get a chance to take any photos! 3 of us had the Haddock and chips, which was a very generous portion and was delicious. The batter was thin and crispy and the fish was beautifully white. 2 had hake, 2 had burgers, 1 had chicken Milanese and 1 had the pork belly. There were no complaints and there were empty plates at the end of the meal. A couple of starters were ordered and most of us had puddings-which were also delicious (especially the Gypsy Tart ice cream). The service was friendly and efficient-we did have to chase up the bill and decided to go to the counter to pay (just so we didn't miss our train) but we couldn't fault it. Good, filing, tasty food in a lovely pub with great service. A blind at the little window would have been welcome as my husband had to make a make-shirt curtain with his jacket to stop us cooking in the sunshine-hopefully as the weather warms up, that'll be put in place.
