The Necessarium

Canterbury

View on Google Maps

The Necessarium unfolds across four storeys in a centuries-old building on the King's Mile. Ground level holds the kitchen, fitted with electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher and washing machine, with French doors opening to a courtyard. A staircase with handrail leads up to the first floor, where a living room and separate dining room provide space to gather. Two further floors contain the bedrooms: one room with a super kingsize bed and ensuite shower; another with super kingsize and access to the family bathroom (bath with shower over); a third with super kingsize; and a fourth with two single beds. This arrangement means 8 guests can stay, with 2 bathrooms between them. Wi-Fi, heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are all covered.

Outside, an enclosed lawned garden with patio and furniture sits behind the property, and there is parking for two cars on site. One pet stays free. The building's thick stone walls and leaded windows date back centuries, though the accommodation itself is straightforward and comfortable rather than decorated to period. The King's School Canterbury is nearby, and the Cathedral precincts—where you can attend services or simply walk among the Gothic architecture—are on the doorstep. Canterbury itself is compact and walkable, with medieval streets, independent shops and cafés radiating from the city centre. No smoking is permitted in the property.
