About Clayton Hotel Cardiff

Clayton sits at the southern end of St Mary Street, which puts it about two minutes from Cardiff Central station and roughly the same from the stadium gates — a combination that makes it one of the easiest arrivals in the city if you are coming by train. The building is modern and the 216 bedrooms are generously sized by British city-centre standards, with air conditioning throughout and a decent number of family rooms.

The Grill Restaurant and Bar occupies the ground floor and does a straightforward job of breakfast and evening meals; there is also a reasonable amount of meeting and event space, which means midweek the hotel has a business feel and weekends a distinctly leisure one. Direct bookers get a nightly discount through the group's membership scheme.

What you are paying for here is location and reliability rather than character. St David's shopping centre, Cardiff Market and the arcades are all a short walk north, the Bay train leaves from Queen Street ten minutes away, and Caroline Street's late-night chip shops are around the corner. Light sleepers should ask for a room away from the street front, as St Mary Street is loud on Friday and Saturday nights.

We had a lovely stay. Staff were all v kind and helpful, room was spacious, comfortable, cool and clean, breakfast was nice and reasonably priced. We requested a fridge and travel cot for the room and these were happily provided without any fuss. Overall the hotel is a bit dated though - the fixtures and fittings are showing wear and tear, the TV in the room is old and there are no plug sockets by the bed, for example - you can tell things were laid out 10+ years ago. No major issues though!

This was the first time that we have stayed in a Clayton hotel (Cardiff) & we wanted to say that it was an outstanding experience. The staff were all welcoming, friendly & efficient. The room was extremely comfortable & met our every need. The food was excellent (breakfast x 3 days & 1 evening meal). We relly appreciated the wide choice of items at breakfast. We will definately stay again on another visit.

A party of three of us stayed in this gem of a hotel. The room itself was perfect. The breakfast offering was outstanding. One member of staff named Kamal is the most attentive hard working gentleman. Kamal is an assett to this establishment. We would most definitely return. Well done!

I had a fantastic stay here! The staff were amazing—incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout my entire visit. The room itself was spotless and very clean, and the bed was exceptionally comfy, making it easy to get a great night's sleep. One of the best parts was the fantastic location. It’s perfectly situated near several great bars, making it easy to enjoy the local nightlife without a long trek back. Highly recommended for anyone looking for comfort and convenience!
